Guard Auxiliary, Mayor Kanyha pro
claimed June 7-14 as Safe Boating’
Week.
The water rate hike hearing*
rescheduled for June 9, will begin at
9:30 A.M. The Town will be repre
sented by Town Attorney Ken Kirk-
man.
The contract for use of the
Solid Waste Authority for refuse dis
posal will be rewritten to address
serious concern of the proposed sixty
year provision to g-ive the Authority
power to impose fees on the munici
palities, which are, in fact, taxes, to
cover any shortfall in operation ex
penses. Dialogue concerning' this con
tract will continue as developments
occur.
Attorney Neil Whitford reported
that the Wallace Evans law suit has
been successfully concluded following
the N.C. Supreme Court ruling which
upheld the Pine Knoll Shores Zoning
ordinance and building code require
ments.
CAC Chairman, Ron Maxwell, pre
sented the Annual Report to the Board
of Commissioners.
The Civil Preparedness g-roup
will now be called Emerg-ency Manag~e-
ment in order to identify with compa
rable county and national organiza
tions with that responsibility. The
public hurricane awareness meeting
will be held on May 29, 1992, at 2:00
