in regular session on May 20,
Chairman Ron Maxwell presiding.
Building Inspector, Roy Brownlow
reported that there were no residential
or commercial permits issued but there
were 6 occupancy certificates issued.
John Cronk and Don Gustin,
representing Bogue Banks Coimtry
Club presented plans for two new
tennis courts adjacent to the existing
ones. Approval was granted with
recommendations once the proposed
site was toured by the Commissioners.
Other business covered was:
Deteriorating seawalls at Arborvitae
Court, expansion of boatslips at Hall
Haven, tree removal at McGinnis Point;
Request for approval of a proposed new
subdivision - McGinnnis Point West.

program implemented by Sheriff Ralph
Thomas. Shut-ins, the elderly and
others who live alone can be put on this
list and receive a call each morning to
be sure they are up and around. Sheriff
Thomas also said that this service is not
limited to elderly people or people who
are chronically ill. If you are living
alone, are recuperating from surgeiy,
want your senior citizen relative
checked on, or want a daily wake-up
call, this too can be arranged. If
interested, forms are available at the
Sheriffs ofBce or call 728-3772.

Plaiming a Yard Sale?
Citizens are urged to contact the
Building Inspectors office prior to
having the sale. Yard sale and open
house signs are permitted, however,
there are regulations in the PKS
Municipal Code applicable to such
signs.
"As per Section 18-1.13(e) of the
municipal code, a maximum of five (5)
"yard sale" signs, professionally made,
not exceeding three (3) square feet in
size, may be erected. One (1) on the
properly at which the sale is being
conducted, and one (I) at each
intersection within the Town at which
a change of direction is required by
vehicular trafSc utilizing the most
direct route from the nearest State
maintained road. Signs are provided
by the Town of PKS to the applicant
upon request (subject to the availability
of such Town owned signs). Such
signs may be installed no more than
one (1) hour before the commencement
of such yard sale and must be removed
within one (1) hour following the
termination of the yard sale, with a
maximum duration of six (6) hours.
Such signs may include only the
address of, duration of the sale and the
words "yard sale."
The Town is authorized to require
applications to be submitted for permits
for all temporary signs. There are no
fees involved. Any sign(s) provided by
the town shall be returned to Town
Hall by the applicant as soon as
possible.

Outer Banks Wildlife
Shelter
Although several of the states
surrounding us have had serious rabies
epidemics in wildlife. North Carolina
has been lucky. Until this year, we had
no rabies; the cases that have tested
positive have been few and are located
in far Western North Carolina.
Because we must keep it that way, we
do not release animals into the wild
that have been brought here fi"om
elsewhere. All OWLS volunteers who
handle raccoons, foxes, and bats have
had pre-exposure rabies vaccinations.
You can help - report any animals
brought here fi-om other areas. Tours
of the Wildlife shelter are now being
given. Tuesdays and Saturdays, 1:00
PM. Reservations are required. Call

so the mower can't slide or fall on top
of you.
