Come Touch Come See id-summer is the peak visitation period at the N.C. Aquarium. A busy tourist season combined with major exhibit expansion makes for a challenging environment for the staff. Cun-ently there are a number of volunteers assisting the design curator in fabrication of foliage. The artifical foliage will be used in the habitat simulations for the new exhibit entitled "Precious Waters." The new exhibit will be presented on the main exhibit floor. Bob Patton attributes the success of the information desk and touch tank program to the support of the Pine Knoll Shores community volunteers. We appreciate their energy and dedication. Gayle Piner would like to thank all the residents currently involved with the Sea Turtle Awareness Program. Sea Turtle walkers, nest watchers, and feeders are all vital components of the program. The sea turtle walkers alone contributed over a thousand hours for the months of May and June. Thank you to all the Aquarium volunteers for their dedication to our facility. J. P. McCann N.C. Aquarium Building Inspector Roy Brownlow reported on information he had gathered on codes for paving of driveways in town. The town attorney has advised that a landscape permit is not needed to re-pave existing driveways as long as vegetation and boundaries are not disturbed. July has been a very busy month at the library. We've had a great number of children using the library, and we'd like to thank Betty Wagner and Dot Panagakos doing programs for us on Australia and Greece for our summer reading games. Our new B&T books are M Around The Town by Mary Higgins Clark, At Weddings and Wakes by A. McDermott and Burden of Desire by R. McNeil. The Book Club "Between the Book Ends" will be reading "Old Man and The Sea" by Hemingway for September. For background, partici pants may wish to read Heminqwav. A Life Without Consequences. The October selection will "Shadow on the Rock" by Willa Cather and the November selection will be "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Copies are available at the library for members and they will be 7-day books. They may be renewed once is they are over 350 pages. We would also like to express appreciation to Marge Green for installing new shelves in a closet and to Frank Herbst for installing our new bookdrop. BOOK SALE!
