The data suggest that there are probably several sources of contamination within the canal. High numbers during periods without surface run-off suggest that subsurface drainage may be the main source of the elevated counts. Surface run-off from culverts draining Pine Knoll Shores are one significant source following heavy rainfall. The final report will be completed in January 1993. M Congressman Walter Jones has attached a special bill to H.R. 2152 which will correct the Interior Department map that keeps certain developed areas of Pine Knoll Shores from flood insurance eligibility. The bill must now pass the Senate.
