BEACH RENOURISHMENT
At the August 9 Town Board Meeting, Commissioners voted unanimously by
•solution to support the Beach Renourishment Committee by asking the United
’ites Department of Army, Wilmington District, Corps of Engineers, to
designate the ocean front of Pine Knoll Shores as a priority area to receive
any sand that needs a deposit area in the immediate future. Studies by the
Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources studies indicate the
current erosion rate is now approaching five feet a year.
Serving on this committee chaired by Dr. Ruth Sweeny are: Russ Beard,
Victor Bryant, Paul Gross, Kenneth Hanan, Reese Musgrave and Judy Poit.
MIMOSA BRIDGE BULKHEAD
In accordance with the Century/Von Oesen study recommendation, a bid by
Mud Bucket Dredging Co. for $33,815 has been approved by the Board of
Commissioners for the repair of 105 feet of bulkhead near Mimosa Bridge using
polyvinylchloride capped with concrete. The estimated life of this vinyl
material is 25 years. A small amount of cleanup dredging of approximately
270 cu. yards of sand will take place and be used to back fill the new
seawall at an additional cost of $3,510.
PINE KNOLL CONDOMINIUMS
At the recommendation of the Planning Board, the Board of Commissioners
voted to approve the site plan of the proposed Pine Knoll Condominiums, to be
located on 1.98 acres of oceanfront property west of Genesis. This approval
is conditioned upon the receipt of all federal, state and town permits and
arrangements with Genesis to tie on to their waste water disposal system.
There will be six units with four parking spaces for each unit with an
^ditional eight for guest parking. The Community Appearance Commission has
^r^roved the landscaping plan.
