FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
Commissioner Gallo reported that ad valorem tax collection for 1993 was
100% adjusting for motor vehicle billing and collection using the new county
system. The new 1994 tax bills have been printed and mailed. He also
reported August revenues were $125,974, with the majority coming from an
increased sales tax. Expenditures were $104,470. Investments will earn
$52,888 during the year which is about two cents of the tax rate.
BEACH RENOURISHMENT
The Planning Board asked the Commissioners to consider asking all residents
to participate in funding renourishment of our beaches on a pro rata basis by
assessing oceanfront property owners, including homeowners associations.
There was a lengthy discussion on the proposal. Mayor Hasulak felt more study
was needed regarding the Town's legal obligation. The Commissioners voted to
ask Planning Board to reconsider beach renourishment in light of the
discussion at the Board of Commissioners Meeting. Planning Board Chairman
Beal Marks requested Town Attorney Ken Kirkman attend the Planning Board
meeting on September 28 to offer his expertise.
