V j7PIANNING BOARD - BOARD 0F^)JU8TMENT On Thursday, March 9, and Fri day, March 10, 1995, the towns of Pine Knoll Shores, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach and the Carteret County Planning Departments will sponsor a work session under the auspices of the Institute of Gov ernment . The sessions, beginning on Thursday evening at 7:00 at the Morehead City Municipal Building, South 8 St., for a Planning Board session and concluding with a spe cial Board of Adjustment session Friday morning from 9:00 until, at the Pine Knoll Shores Town Hall. All Code Enforcement Officers, Building Inspectors, Board of Ad justment and Planning Board mem bers are encouraged to attend both sessions. CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION Captain Richard Willis, local squadron commander. Civil Air Pa trol, the official U.S. Air Force Auxiliary as chartered by Congress, presented a certificate of appre ciation, signed by N.C. Wing Com mander Dick Bonner, to the Town of Pine Knoll Shores in recognition of outstanding assistance in helping provide pagers for this volunteer group of thirty retired pilots. As many as 2000 manhours of service are provided each calendar quarter. The Patrol supports the Emergency Management in this county by pro viding pre and post disaster damage analysis, radio communications at the EOC, aerial photography, recon- naisance and searches. They are part of the largest communications network in the nation which in cludes the Department of Defense. In November of this year, the N.C. Wing will host about 500 members at the National Conference to be held at the Sheraton. INSPECTIONS AND PLANNING During the month of January, 1995, the Inspections Department! issued no residential permits. 19 miscellaneous permits for a con struction value of $87,500. Most of these permits were for beach ac cess repairs and replacement. One Certificate of Occupancy was issued in this period. Due to the beach erosion, 12 CAMA permits and at least 12 CAMA exemptions were issued in January. The Coastal Resource Commission of the State of N.C. approved the amendment to the PKS Land use Plan on January 26, 1995. The amendment clarifies that while the Town op poses the construction of new mari nas, modifications to an existing "marina", (as per CAMA's definition of a "marina") including the devel opment of additional slips, are al lowed .
