A committee was formed to plan activities for EMS Appre ciation day to be held May 20, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Town Hall. Come and meet your EMS Squad! EMS Week will be the time to meet and express our dedication through all the training to give the best service at our level of training. If and when we have a patient that needs a higher level of training than ours, we will call Atlantic Beach without delay. The patient's well being is our priority. "Get Em There Alive" is our motto! This month, the Squad recognizes Lois Heffelfinger and Peggy Price for all the hours they spent get ting the new uniforms ready for all members. We thank them for the ex cellent job. Dedication! A short remark regarding the ar ticle in the local paper that was an insult and upsetting to squad members. Towns that want and have an emergency medical service should be responsible for what type of squad is needed and the cost, paid or volunteer! Morehead City, Beau fort and Newport recently became a paid squad. But, they still have volvinteers which are needed. The cost of a fully paid squad would be a financial burden to any town. We, Pine Knoll Shores, should be ever so thankful for the volunteers that give so freely and are dedica ted to their duty as a member. Not a hobby!!! There is a time and need for "Red Lights & Siren" ! I have asked that our drivers respond with siren and lights to emergency calls. EMT- D's arrive on the scene before the ambulances most times, and equip ment needed is on the ambulances. Hearing the siren is a great relief to members waiting at the scene. Regarding response time, I don't think you will find a squad that can beat our time. Within five min utes or less, we have a member at the scene doing the evaluation of the patient. The squad had 11 runs in March. Call 911! PKS EMS will be there!!! Teddy Wimberley, Chief HELP! HELP! HELP! HELPl ON MAY 3, MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSN.
