PINE KNOLL SHORES WOMEN'S CLUB
With days on the beach waning and the
holiday season just around the corner, many of
us are taking a critical look at the ambience
inside the house and wishing for some tips on
how to make the interior more exciting or
inviting.
Lynn Starling of Star Designs came to the
rescue! Featured speaker at the Pine Knoll
Shores Women's Club meeting Friday,
November 17, at Town Hall, Ms. Starling will
discuss how "Little Things Mean a Lot" in home
decor. She will demonstrate ways we can
freshen up our homes with accessories.
The meeting will open at 9:30 AM, with the
serving of coffee. At the close of the meeting.
The "Lunch Bunch" will go to the Town House
Restaurant in Morehead City to enjoy a
sampling of Lebanese dishes especially prepared
by the chef for the occasion. Diners may also
order from the regular menu if they prefer.
All members and guests attending the meeting
are welcome to join the lunch group; however
lunch reservations are required. Please call
Nancy Forster, 247-0072, if you wish to have
lunch.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The AARP Tax-Aide program is seeking
additional volunteers to assist the elderly and
low-to-moderate income taxpayers in the
preparation of their Federal and State income
tax returns. IRS certified instructors will teach
the course, and material will be provided. If
interested, please call Sal Franzo(247-2317) for
further information.
PINE KNOLL SHORES CARDEN CLUB
PKS Garden Club met October 11 at Town
Hall. Hospitality Chairman, Connie Parker, was
assisted by Bobbie Ready, Shirley Hargroves
and Penny McAnaw.
Claire Winslow introduced speaker, Todd
Miller, Executive Director of the NC Coastal
Federation. The Federation is non-profit. It is
fufided by individual donations and grants. It
investigates concerns with water quality and the
way it is affected by loss of wetlands due to
conversion of natural forest areas, and seashore
erosion. North Carolina has lost much natural
wetlands, primarily due to pollutants.
Garden Club will sell luminaria kits again this
year. Candles are sold which can be set out
along streets and around boat basins Christmas
Eve. The kits are $5.00 for 10 candles and 10
bags. Garden Club members will take orders, or
call Julia Woolard (247-6030) or Connie Parker
(247-6033).
Judy Poit, Project Chairman, announced the
project this year will be added planting at the
Mimosa Blvd corner.
Gardening Tip, from Betty Stanton - when fill
ing flower pots, put a coffee filter or plastic
popcorn in the bottom under the dirt.
BOCUE BANKS LIBRARY
It is a little quieter at the library now that
autumn is here and our summer visitors have
gone. However, the staff is very busy with our
new computers, inventory and many other
changes that are taking place. Please remember
to ask to be registered for a new regional library
card if you do not already have one.
We have a new audio cassette stand or holder
to the right of the shelves where the cassettes
were. We will be getting a second one of these
stands in the future.
