JANUARY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING
TAX COLLECTION
1995 ad valorem taxes collected as of December 31,1995 were $474,901, which is 80% of the
tax levy. January 5, 1996 was the last date to pay 1995 ad valorem taxes without interest. January
interest is 2% of the tax bill with 3/4 percent added each month thereafter. Motor vehicle taxes
collected as of December 31, 1995 were $6,725. There has also been collected $307.34 In 1994
ad valorem taxes.
TRAFFIC LIGHT
The N.C Dept, of Transportation has denied the request from the Town to install a traffic light
at the intersection of Hwy. 58 and Mimosa Blvd. After completing a traffic analyis, DOT felt the
statistics did not warrant a light. However, Commissioner Kanyha intends to submit a request for a
control light this year.
SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE INSURANCE
The Board of Commissioners voted to allow Municipal Insurance Trust of N.C. to provide Town
employees, who are interested, the opportunity to obtain Supplemental life insurance. There would
be no cost for the Town.
PLANNING & INSPECTIONS
During the year 1995, the PKS Building Inspector's office issued 30 residential permits with
construction value of $4,659,966 and 179 miscellaneous permits with a value of $1,636,857. There
was one commercial permit of $195,000 that was issued in 1995.
