LARGE ITEM PICKUP - May 9 Waste Industries will ; conduct its semi-annual pickup of large and bulky household it ems on Thursday, ; May 9. Items which will NOT be accepted are: Tires and batteries Paint and oil Building materials Gas cans and containers with other residue in them. PINE KNOLL SHORES EMS SQUAD #65 The Squad's monthly meeting was held April 1996 at Town Hall. We will get a picture with members and the new ambulance for the local paper with a news release. Nominating Committee presented the slate for election of Chief, Assistant Chief, Secretary and Treasurer. Election will be held at the May 7th meeting. We have ordered patches for members that will resemble the design that the Police and the Fire Dept, wear on their uniforms. A letter of resignation was received from Peggy Price. We regret losing a dedicated member. We wish her the best. She will be missed. A letter was read from Dr. Bell, EMS Director, stating that it is no longer mandatory for EMT-D's to spend 4 hours quarterly in the Emergency Room, The hospital is working on a program that will include an educational experience in the ER. Malcom Bone, Rita Whalen, Wade Lamson, and Larry Kacmarick took their State EMT-D test in April and we can happHy report that they all passed and are now certified EMT- D'S. CONGRADULATIONS TO THEM ALL! We were asked to help with "The Mile of Hope" on May 4th. We will have our Squad available. "EMS WEEK" is May 19-25, 1996. The day for this celebration will be announced later. Summer is just around the corner!!...The population will be increasing each week! Please DRIVE CAREFULLY....BE SAFE.. CALL 911 AND THE "ORANGE" COATS AND AMBULANCE WILL BE THERE!! Teddy Wimberley PINE KNOLL SHORES CARDEN CLUB Marianna Brown was the speaker for the PKS Garden Club, April 10. Marianna lives in Newport, and is on the Board of Governors for the Elizabethan Gardens. Mrs. Brown spoke on the planting, fertilizing, and pruning of Azaleas. Mary Ann Cornelius and Peg Ratliffe were in charge of refreshments. Nan Gildner baked a beautifully decorated birthday cake to celebrate Marianna's Birthday on April 10th. The Seashore Garden Club met April 24, at Emerald Isle Town Hall. Mr. Jerry Anderson from Morehead City demonstrated arranging flowers in unusual containers. PKS Garden Club members will be responsible for making 32 flower arrange ments for the annual State Garden Club meeting May 5, in New Bern. Mr. Dave Yaccapraro, from Dave's Bait and Tackle in Harlowe gave 4 of the members some of his own organic fertilizer, potting soil and peat moss with which to experiment using 2 different pots. One pot will contain his materials, and one pot will be grown with whatever they usually use, and thev will evaluate what they think of his fertilizer and potting soil. He ' gave each member a pound of his organic fertilizer to try. Peg Hereth Pine Knoll Shores T-shirts and Caps are still available for sale at Town Hall.
