Annual luncheon The ocean front Dunes Club, Atlantic Beach, provided an elegant setting for the Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club annual luncheon and installation of officers June 7, with 84 members in attendance. Following the invocation by Uriene Williamson, guests enjoyed chicken salad, fresh fruit, muffins and lemon sherbert dessert. Out going president Betty Lee Foulk then called the meeting to order, thanking her board and the general membership for their support and enthusiasm during the past year. A final action of the outgoing board was the selection of local organizations to receive funding through the club's philanthropic program. Martha's Mission, Hospice and the Carteret County Domestic Violence Program each will receive a check for $200. Helpline was awarded $150, and Habitat and the Broad Street Clinic, each $100. In addition, a book of special interest to women will be presented to the Bogue Banks Library. Mrs. Foulk introduced Joy Amico who conducted the installation of the new officers: Joan Lamson, President; Nancy Forster, Vice-President; Barbara Flynt, Secretary, and Betty Herrmann, Treasurer. Accepting the gavel, incoming President Lamson thanked Mrs. Foulk for her leadership during the past year and, on behalf of the club, presented her with a gift of appreciation. The afternoon concluded with a lilting program of show tunes and operatic selections by Soprano Laura Reinhardt Steele of Cleveland, Ohio, accompanied by pianist Marge Sellers, Pine Knoll Shores. Mrs. Steele, formerly with the Virginia Beach Opera Company, is the daughter-in- law of President Lamson. Club activities will resume in September, with meetings on the fourth Friday of the month in the town hall. All women residing in Pine Knoll Shores are invited to join, and guests are welcome. Gene is Chairman Elect of the Morehead City Chamber of Commerce and has been working closely with Phyllis Ford, present President of the Chamber and neighbor on Beechwood Drive. They were drawn to PKS because of the quiet and the way the area is maintained. We are glad they chose us. judy Poit 4
