SEPTEMBER BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MEETING
BEACH PRESERVATION
Marvin Weisman spoke to the Board of Commissioners on behalf of a group of citizens
that do not agree with the Beach Preservation Assn. and its request for a bond referendum for
beach renourishment. The Town has agreed to do a mailing survey for input from the
citizenry. Mr. Weisman asked that the group he represents be given the opportunity for input
in the survey before it is mailed.
WATER REPORT
On August 29, 1996, in Carteret County Superior Court, Judge James E. Ragan , III
ordered a summary judgement be granted in favor of the Town and the Board of
Commissioners in both lawsuits filed by Carolina Water Service. He dismissed the cases with
the costs to be taxed against the Plaintiff. The Declaratory Judgement that the Town filed
against Carolina Water Service will be heard the week of September 16th.
Commissioner Gallo stated that several options are being considered, such as a slightly
higher offer for the water system or a 30% reduction in rates. In the meantime, the Town is
in the process of designing its own water system.
HURRICANE FRAN
The costs for cleanup from Hurricane Fran have not been
determined at this printing. However, the Town has been
approved for reimbursement for the costs of cleanup from
Hurricane Bertha.
