Reese Musgrave was given the oath of office for Mayor of Pine Knoll Shores and Emily White was given the oath of office for Mayor Pro Tern. They were elected at a special meeting on January 6, 1997, and Commissioner Goetzinger was sworn in as Police Commissioner at the same meeting. TAX APPRAISALS Commissioner Gallo reported that the recent tax appraisal figures supplied by the county tax appraisal office, show property values have increased 38% in Pine Knoll Shores since the last appraisal in 1989. He will be recommending to the Board a reduction in the tax rate that will net the Town sufficient funds to operate and keep a balanced budget. The current revenues and expenditures are right on target with investments yielding approximately 5.15%. He is hoping the county will also consider a tax reduction in their rate. SAND PUSHING Funding has been granted for sand pushing in some areas of the beach. This will replace a beach berm that had been proposed previously by CAMA. WATER REPORT The scheduled meeting with the President of Carolina Water Service in December has been rescheduled for February 4, 1997. Town officials have been notified that the Local Government Commission, a division of the State Treasurer's Office, has approved the $4,000,000 Water Bond Project. This is a very positive step for the Town.
