PUBLIC HEARING
BUDGET FY 1997-98
The Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted the proposed FY 1997-98 Budget.
They worked diligently to achieve a budget that was revenue neutral. There being no
comments on the proposed budget at the Public Hearing, gave an affirmative response to
the Board from the citizens that our interests are being protected.
LAND USE PLAN
Planner Dale Holland presented the completed and edited FY96 Land Use Plan for
adoption by the Board of Commissioners. The Board voted unanimously to send the Plan
to the Coastal Resources Commission for certification at their July meeting. All of the
Town's policies in the Land Use Plan either meet or exceed the State's minimum use
standards for areas of environmental concern.
HAZARD MITIGATION GRANTS
The N.C. Division of Emergency Management has reviewed the two projects submitted
by the Town for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. The first grant for alleviating the
flooding in the eastern section of Town has been approved for an approximate cost of
$270,500. The second grant for sand fencing and revegetating the 4.7 miles of frontal dunes,
at an estimated cost of $133,700, is also in the final approval stage.
