COMMUNITY SERVICE SENIOR VACCINATION SUNDAY Fact: Bacterial pneumonia andiniiusnza. can be deadly to older Americans. Now you've got a fair shot at fiehtine back. If you are 65 or older, bring your Medicare B card to the National Guard Armory on Sunday, October 12, between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm and get a free shot in the arm. The flu and pneumonia vaccine will be given at no charge to seniors 65 and older on this day. If you are less than 65 years of age, the cost is $8.00 for flu shots and $15.00 for pneumonia shots. For most folks, the pneumonia shot is one time for a lifetime of protection against bacterial pneumonia. Check with your doctor to find out if you have previously been vaccinated against pneumonia. Flu shots should be repeated each fall. GUARDIAN AD LITEM SERVICES Volunteers needed for Carteret Countv Volunteer Guardians Ad Litem are needed to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in Juvenile Court. There are no special educational requirements for volunteers who are given 24 hours of training and paired with a program attorney before being assigned to a case. Responsibilities include investigation of cases, networking with human services personnel, maintaining confidentiality, and reporting to the Court on the child's behalf. Training will be offered in mid-September through mid-October. Contact the Guardian Ad Litem Office at 514-4701 (New Bern) or 728-8574 (Beaufort). Medical Equipment Available Did you know? Town Hall loans out medical equipment such as crutches and walkers. It is on a first come first serve basis. If you find that you need such items, give us a call at 247-4353 or come by the office. Members of the committee, board members, the club manager and tennis pro will all be on hand to answer your questions and conduct a tour of the facilities. The next meeting is scheduled for 3:00 pm, Wednesday, September 17th at the Bogue Banks Country Club. You do not have to have a boat to join, only an interest in fishing.
