from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00
p.m. for its annual
north'carol'ina festive Holiday Open

the yuletide gathering
feature refreshments, but also musical good

Pine Knoll Shores was well represented
recently at the aquarium's annual October
volunteer luncheon at the Veranda Restaurant
in Beaufort. More than 70 volunteers attended
the noon event and, again Four on the Isle
delighted listeners with a medley of four-part
harmony favorites.
Mistress of ceremonies Brigitte Tuner, the
aquarium's longtime volunteer coordinator and
a resident of Pine Knoll Shores, presented a
bevy of awards to volunteers. Sheryl
Woodbury of Pine Knoll Shores received the
Alex Trebek Award for the many hours she
spent developing the popular "Aquarium
Jeopardy" game, and Carol Murphy of Pine
Knoll Shores received a special Sweat Shop
award for hosting the "Aquarium Quiz" summer
game series. Many other volunteers received
Sweat Shop awards for working at "discovery
stations" during the summer's twice-weekly
Shark and Reptile Days, which attracted
hundreds of additional visitors. Fourteen
volunteers received three-year service pins.
Nine received five-year pins and nine others
received gifts for contributing more than 100
volunteer hours.
If you would like to become an aquarium
volunteer, plan on attending the next
orientation meeting on January 7. For

The aquarium winter hours are 9:00 a.m.

Bowling News
The Ancient Mariners
had their kick off party at
the Ramada Inn on
September 30. About
seventy-two people
attended an evening of fun and good eats. Our
Secretary, Del Erickson, handed out sheets that
told what team we were on and our schedule
for the season. President, Stacey Veros
welcomed everyone back and said she hoped
for a great year.
On September 6th bowling began.
Everyone was rusty but a good time was had by
all. There were some good scores as well as
bad.

Bowling News Update
The Mariners have now finished five weeks
of bowling. We are having a great time and
getting some good scores. There are some
interesting things happening at the alleys, ask
Teddy Wimberly, whose delivery is very
unusual.
