EMS Squad #65 Pine Knoll Shores Rescue Squad #65 was doubly blessed with wonderful benefits this past holiday season. The Trinity Center presented us with two cell phones, one for each ambulance. Included in this generous gift was the installation and a one year service contract on each phone. Our second benefit was the matching State Insurance Grant award for two new Life Pac 500 defibrillators, again, one for each ambulance. This grant is in the amount of $3,800. Needless to say, the squad members are really pleased to update these vital pieces of equipment. A second grant from the North Carolina League of Municipalities; Risk Management Services, was also received in December. This grant of $101.50 is to be used for safety equipment. We welcome another new member-in- training, Dee Snow, who is a registered nurse. Dee is currently attending the Carteret Community College Continuing Education EMS basic course being conducted at the Salter Path Fire and Rescue facility. Squad #65 responded to ten emergency calls and two fire calls in December. Submitted by: Marilyn Smetana Fire Department News We were busy in December with five fire calls; fortunately only one was of a somewhat serious nature. The Christmas parade was well received and for those that couldn't tell — that was Duke Foulk behind that Santa Clause beard, doing his usual great job. DeVan Barbour made his annual visit to the Morehead Middle School dressed in full turn out gear. He was demonstrating that the monster looking man is a friend and in the event of a fire, children shouldn't hide from him. Introduction to the new recruit training classes will be on January 22 with the first full session starting on January 27. There is still time to look into being a part of the Pine Knoll Shores Fire Department. Do you have three hours to donate each month? There's a job for you in the Fire Department. Call Town Hall at 247-4353 and make an appointment to talk with me about the opportunity to serve your community. The permits are valid for one year and have to be renewed each year. 3) If you sell your property, please inform the new owners of the need and procedure for obtaining permanent reentry permits. 4) When you return to PKS after the "all clear for residents" is announced, the permit should be on the dashboard so that it can readily be seen through the windshield.
