PKS Squad #65
Pine Knoll
Shores' Mayor and
Commissioners
hosted a wonderful "appreciation" picnic
for the Town Fire Fighters and Emergency
Medical Technicians on Friday afternoon,
May 1. For our benefit, the rainy morning
turned into a beautiful, sunny afternoon!
Frank Wallace provided great fun activities
for the seventy some participants and the
delicious food was provided by Smithfield
caterers. On behalf of all these volunteers
we thank the Town for honoring us in such
a generous and enjoyable way.
Most people may be aware of new
regulations concerning the Do Not
Resuscitate (DNR) orders that are available
for incurably and seriously ill, dying
patients. Recently, these orders were
legally expanded to include the patient's
personal wishes as expressed to their
doctor. It is important to note that both
these conditions require the signature of
the physician. Information sheets,
regarding this issue, are available at the
Squads' office in the Town Hall.
Squad #65 responded to twelve
medical emergencies in April.

Please contact
the PKS Police
Department or the
Carteret County
Sheriff's Department if you have concerns
of the legitimacy of any law enforcement
organization attempting to collect money
for donations. Currently a group
identifying itself as The Police Benevolent
Association is contacting people via the
telephone and asking for donations and
they then want your credit card number.
Never give out this information - a true law
enforcement group would not ask for this
information.
There is currently a legitimate law
enforcement fund raising drive by the
Carteret County Law Enforcement Officer's
Association being done by telephone.
These proceeds are used for Domestic
Violence Manuals, Youth Scholarships and
other community assistance programs.
Just remember when in doubt ASK!

PKS Garden Club
Been wondering
how to create a Bonsai?
Well, now the members
of the PKS Garden Club
know all about Bonsai,
Walter Wenzel of PKS,
founder of the Carteret Bonsai Club, was
introduced by First Vice President, Irene
Doremus. He gave a stimulating talk on
Bonsai, "Small Plant Growing in a Pot,"
and demonstrated exactly how to create
one from a plant that could be purchased
locally. Explaining as he trimmed the roots
to fit the container and pruned the yaupon
into an interesting shape, he gave all of the
members the incentive to go out and buy a
plant and create their own Bonsai.
Following his presentation. President,
Mary Heim, conducted the business
meeting. The June Installation Luncheon
and Annual Meeting will take place at the
Sheraton on June 10. After a summer
hiatus, meetings will resume the second
Wednesday of every month commencing
in September. ALL ARE WELCOME.
