Bogue Banks Public Library, PKS, Branch of Carteret County Public Library News of Summer Events: During August at Bogue Banks Branch Library, the final movies in the Summer Film Classics for children were concluded August 13^. For the Summer Reading Program's final event, over ninety children attended the Closing Celebration Party at which author Anne Abernathy Roth delighted her audience with her original stories and songs. Each child who had read at least ten books received a certificate for his or her accomplishment. The Friends of Bogue Banks Branch Library conducted a very successful Book Sale on Saturday, August 8, at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Atlantic Beach. From the sale of books, approximately $700 is now in the coffers of the Friends of the Library to be used for the benefit and promotion of the library. New Books! Famine is over! Feast is here! Of new books, that is! Patricia Cornwell is on the Best Seller List with Point of Origin in which Dr. Kay Scarpetta is back confronting a serial killer whose identity reveals an old enemy. One of our library staff members reported she was glued to this one and found it to be one of Cornwell's best so far. For aficionados of spy rings, cold wars, or the unfathomable doings of governments. Eleventh Commandment a CIA officer against the Director of Central Intelligence. Fans of Jimmy Buffett will enjoy his Pirate Loo!s at 50, a reflection of this music star's half-century of days and nights. Widow for One Kearby John Irving offers three views of the involved situations facing a writer and single mother. Other new books at Bogue Banks Library well worth attention include Low Country by Anne Rivers Siddons, 9 Steps to Financial Freedom by Suze Orman and On the Occasion of My Last Afternoon by Kaye Gibbons. Exhibits Purina August: Exhibits in the library's Gallery are expected to showcase the work of area artists. The ambience of the Gallery has drawn attention to this excellent location for the displays, which are of interest to community residents and visitors. Children's Preschool Story time: Preschool Storytime resumes its regular program on Mondays at 10:30 at the library in Pine Knoll Shores. Special Closing: The library will be closed on Monday, September 7, for Labor Day. Bogue Banks Branch Library is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
