PKS Squad #65 Holloween Night was the time of our annual Goblin dinner/party/meeting at Gloria and Dick Gustafson's home in Pine Knoll Shores. As usual, the members and guests came in their costumes which added to the fun and games planned by the Gustafsons and their committee comprised of Teddy Wimberley, Maureen Danehy and Kathy Murray. It was a fun evening surpassed only by the delicious chili dinner and wonderful desserts. A very special thank you to Gloria and Dick. In the absence of Chief Ted Lindblad, Assistant Chief Bruce Newman conducted the meeting. Five residents of Pine Knoll Shores will begin their basic training on Tuesday, December 1, for our EMS squad. Carteret Community College offers the course and the classes will be held at the Cape Carteret squad building in Cape Carteret. We are particularly pleased to have these new candidates for we have just had five members retire from the squad. If any resident of Pine Knoll Shores is interested in knowing more about the squad, and might be interested in volunteering some of their time and energy, please contact our Chief, Ted Lindblad at 240-0580, or any active member of the squad. The Carteret Community College expects to schedule another basic training sometime in early spring. Squad #65 responded to 7 medical emergencies and 2 transports during October. Submitted by: Marilyn Smetana £aiO/2i T[ from the PKS Police Dept... 'he Pine Knoll Shores Police Department will have a new look in a few weeks. We're changing our uniform shirts to a solid gray color and eliminating the old style with the black epaulets. We will still have our black dress slacks. The new shirts cost a great deal less and will give us a different look from the local "security" companies. We've been acting on recent complaints of speeding on our back and side streets. If anyone has any concerns with speeding or any other problem please let the Police Department know! Remember to dial 504-4800 after business hours (M-F 4:30 p.m. and weekends/holidays) to get a police officer for a non-emergency. You still dial 911 for emergencies. We've also had concerns from motorists about children playing and lying down in the street! Parents should be aware of their children playing in such a dangerous way. The Carteret Community Diagnosis of 1998 rates motor vehicle injury as the fifth (5^^) leading cause of death followed by unintentional injury (7th). It is estimated that as many as 90 percent of unintentional injuries can be prevented. Please join in the effort to make our community safe for our families and children! Also, it is illegal for anyone to discharge a firearm within the city limits of Pine Knoll Shores (except in defense of persons or property or when pursuant to lawful directions of a law enforcement officer). This Town Ordinance (3-4) DOES include pellet guns and air rifles! (continued on page 2) 1
