PKS Women's Club The New Year will offer an exciting trip for our club members, "Historic Charleston, S. C." May 17-19, 1999. Included in the package, for $399 per person, double occupancy, is motorcoach transportation from PKS, 2 nights at a charming B and B in the heart of the historic district, continental breakfast daily, afternoon wine and sherry, transportation and admission to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, transportation and admission to Boone Hall Plantation with lunch. This trip will benefit the Scholarship fund. There is very limited availability and club members should sign up before the offer is opened to the public. Call Ronnie Stanley (726-5367) or Pat Ruggiero (247-7208). A $75 deposit is necessary to book, with the balance due before March 17. A check for $520 was presented to the Club for the Scholarship fund from Accent Travel for the 1998 Biltmore trip. A 1999 Biltmore trip is already being planned. Call Ronnie Stanley (726-5367) for more information and to get on that list. You may call Accent Travel directly and talk to Joanne Belanger. We had already received $80 from the Canyonlands trip, making a total of $600 for the Scholarship fund. The January meeting will be on Friday the 22nd at 9:30 a.m. at the Town Hall. The speaker will be Mark Hall, VP of Interstate/Johnson Lane on "Investing in the Financial Markets". Remember to bring your articles for the Domestic Violence Center (cosmetics, toiletries, OTC medications, batiieries, etc.) and unused prescription medications for the Broad St. Clinic. The other on-going collection is Pak-a-Sak receipts for the schools. Give to Arlene Terrell. Submitted by Jeanne Mays, Publicity ^ PKS Garden After forsaking the whimsical wish for a white winter wonderland members of the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club transformed Jane Page's house on the dunes, the locale for the December 9th winter meeting, into a holiday delight with heaps of holly and poinsettlas, an artfully decorated Frazier fir, golden angels, a Christmas village and loads of holiday cheer! Even Mother Nature cooperated. The dark threatening horizon was pierced by blazing sun rays dancing from the storm clouds and reflecting across the ocean. Casey Griffin created the table centerpiece with massive bunches of pyrocantha berries nestled in a bower of holly and pine. Lois Jean O'Keefe, Olga Welsh, Joan Smith, Joan Dawson, Clare Winslow, and Vivian MacDonald prepared a culinary delight—open faced cream cheese and olive sandwiches, mini ham biscuits, cranberry and blueberry bread, quiche rounds, candy mints, and pecan, walnut and almond crescents. President Judy Poit welcomed special guests and former Garden Club members Margaret Mercer, Alice Jean Noble, and Mildred Kerr. Their presence honored our club. Jane Page was presented with a beautifully crafted blue ceramic whale bowl in appreciation for hosting this Christmas meeting. An exchange of holiday presents revealed decorated baskets, a mini floral painted watering can, a book of garden poems, a sterling dolphin charm, paper white and amaryllis bulbs, gardening tools for houseplants, silk screened floral notepaper and a myriad of other Christmas surprises.
