Page 3 The Shoreline February, 1999 Pine Knoll Shores Fire Department Attention Rental Property Owners Effective January 1, 1999 the Building Code Council of North Carolina passed G.S. 42-42A, which stipulates smoke alarms are required in certain rental units. If you own rental property, you should check with the Building Inspector or the Fire Department to see if this new statute affects you. Bogue Banks Public Library, PKS, Branch of Carteret County Public Library News of Events: Work on the damaged Bogue Banks Public Library is moving ahead. During this time of necessary repairs to the library, workers will be coming and going as each task requires. For that reason, the library cannot be open to the public. The outside Bookdrop can be used for book returns. Audiocassettes cannot be placed in the Bookdrop. During this time of disrupted service, patrons are urged to use the Carteret County Public Library in Beaufort and the Emerald Isle Branch Library in Emerald Isle. northcarolina aquariums Surprise your significant other with a visit to the NC. Aquarium on Valentine's Day. All visitors will be admitted free and programs begin at 11 A.M. and run throughout the day. At 2:00 P.M. custom design a picture frame in the nautical craft class, "Sea Shell Frames. The class requires advance registration and a fee, and all materials are provided. The Aquarium's popular winter cooking series "Succulent Seafood" is well underway and its new feature spotlighting guest chefs has been a tremendous success. Classes are filling quickly, so sign up soon. Chefs yet to be featured are Dave Lindsey of Calypso Cafe on Februar/ 3; Charles Park of Beaufort Grocery on February 17; Tad Whitaker of the Veranda on March 4; Kyle Swain of Wind and Sea on March 23; and Ruth King of Magnolia Tree Cafe on April 8. A new exhibit, "Stranger than Fiction," has recently been installed in the Aquarium's main gallery. Focusing on the perplexing organism pfiesteria, the exhibit targets the importance of clean water and the dangers of storm water runoff. An accompanying brochure dispels the myths and reinforces the facts about this troublesome dinoflagellate that has caused much concern and controversy in recent months.
