Page 3 The Shoreline March, 1999 mmmmmmmmmMmmmmmMmmmmMmMmmmMmMmmmwmmmmmmmam' PKS Police Dept... The following information indicates the number and type of calls the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department had for the year 1998. This indicates ONLY calls in which some type of paperwork is generated and does not show all police calls of a general service nature. The Pine Knoll Shores Police Department is looking at starting a nationwide program "Watch Your Car". Morehead City is currently involved in this program and it appears to be very successful. By signing an agreement with the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department and displaying a decal on your vehicle, motorists give law enforcement officers permission to stop their vehicles between 1 and 5 a.m. without probable cause. If officers discover that the vehicle's owner is not the driver, the police department will call the owner and ask if he or she knows where the car is. If the owner doesn't, and the car is stolen, police will have found it before it was even reported stolen. Soon residents of PKS will be contacted to ascertain if they would like to participate in this program. Also, if at any time a resident has any needs or questions that the police department could provide assistance please contact us. The Pine Knoll Shores Police Department will begin a new service for our citizens in March. In addition to offering the check on your residence when you are out of town, we will check on "you" when you are at home. If you are alone at home or possibly recovering from surgery or an illness if you notify the PKS PD an officer will check in on you at home. This service is part of the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department's effort to provide the best service possible for our citizens. If you are interested please come by the Police Department/ Town Hall and fill out a request form. Please indicate if the house check is for the resident or the residence and the length of time you need the check. 1998 POLICE ACTIVITIES Calls: 1611 House Checks: 5272 False Alarms: 166 Motorist Assists: 122 Citations: 157 Warning Citations: 267 Breath Tests: 12 Traffic Arrests & DWI: 19 Non Traffic Arrests: 30 Domestic Violence Arrests: 8 Fugitive's Arrested: 3 Drug Arrests: 13 Calls Involving Handguns: 3 Town Ordinance Violations: 30 Fight Calls: 27 Mutual Aid Calls: 23 Break-ins: 18* Larcenies: 18* Unsecured Larcenies: 21* *30 Cases solved with property returned Involuntary Commitment: 1 K-9 "Bruno" used during drug arrests, escaped prisoner, missing (drowned) child, and mutual aid calls.
