Page 5 The Shoreline March, 1999 M larch is the beginni ng of school group visits at the Aquarium, and for AQUARIUMS the next three months the building will be filled with the sounds of excited youngsters. Groups are scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. weekdays. To avoid the crowds, plan your spring visits for mid-afternoons or weekends; however, we can't guarantee there won't be a few unannounced "drop-in" groups. In April, the Aquarium begins its many outdoor programs. "Onboard" collecting cruises, Cape Lookout trips, canoe excursions, beach walks and other field trips are offered. All require advance registration and some require fees. For a complete list of spring activities, pick up a calendar, or call 247-4003 and request one by mail. On April 3, youngsters can meet and greet a live alligator and search for alligator eggs on aquarium grounds during an Alligator Easter Egg Hunt. Advance registration and a nominal fee are required. On Earth Day, April 22, all visitors will be admitted free to the Aquarium. Activities include marine life videos, aquarium Jeopardy, and an "Educator's Choice" program. As you know, the Aquarium recently received $15 million for expansion, with construction to begin this fall. To prepare for this major undertaking, the Aquarium will officially close August 16, with plans to reopen in June 2001. A groundbreaking ceremony is set for July 31. At present, the Aquarium is seeking an off-site location to house its administrative staff and offer limited programs and field trips. Because of the impending move, summer hours have been trimmed to 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily to allow the staff to prepare for the relocation. More details will be available in the coming months. For information about Aquarium expansion or programs and activities, call 247-4003. PKS Women's Club LAST CALL for the Charleston trip! The dates are May 17-19 but the deadline for applications and reservations is March 17. If you have missed this information in previous Shorelines, you may get in touch with Ronnie Stanley (726-5367) or Edy Renee Magel (240-0899) for the details. It is a wonderful package for $399 including transportation. Bed and Breakfast for two nights, and admission to two plantations. The proceeds will benefit our scholarship fund. The March meeting will be on Friday the 26^^ at 9:30 a.m. and the speaker will be Jan Bean, WCTI-TV News anchorwoman, who was re-scheduled from February. Don't forget to continue to bring your articles for Domestic Violence and Broad St. Clinic. Plan to join the Lunch Bunch after the meeting. Submitted by Jeanne Mays, Publicity
