Bogue Public PKS, of During August the Carteret County Arts and Crafts Coalition will display original artwork by area artists representing various media through September 1®^ Bogue Banks Branch Library is now operating under its regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Bogue Banks Public Library is a branch of the Carteret County Public Library in Beaufort and is affiliated with the Craven-Pamlico-Carteret Regional Library. The Aquarium recently opened its newest exhibit, "Snakes. Hidden Inhabitants of the Maritime Forest," featuring, live specimens of venomous and non- venomous snakes indigenous to the coastal plain and maritime forest. The outdoor seasonal exhibit features rat snakes, water snakes, timber rattlesnake, eastern cottonmouth and eastern copperhead. The exhibit is accessible through the aquarium and is located on the "Salt Marsh Safari" boardwalk, a soundside walkway at the rear of the facility. The two venomous snakes most common on Bogue Banks are the copperhead and timber rattlesnake. In the coastal plain, the timber rattler is also called canebrake rattlesnake. Because snakes are alert predators, they usually sense a person's approach well in advance; therefore, few people experience the excitement of seeing them in the wild.
