The Shoreline October, 1999 MEET YOUR NEW NEIGHBORS Sharon and Alan Johnston purchased a townhouse at 128 Lagoon Lane in McGinnis Point a year ago. Sharon has lived here but hubby, Alan, was still working in New Jersey, teaching. She saw an ad in our local "mullet wrapper" looking for an administrator for two new longtime care facilities that were just opening, Britthaven at Newport and Havelock. She applied, was hired and opened the new building in Newport as head administrator. Now Alan has retired and joined her here. Sharon was originally from Panama City, FL and Alan was from New Jersey. After a divorce, Sharon moved to New Jersey to work as a social worker first, then into administration. They met at a party and eventually married. Alan taught school for many years. He's a graduate of Trenton State and did his Masters at Michigan State. He went on to become the Science and Social Studies Supervisor for the Township of Ocean' New Jersey. He also taught two years in Puerto Rico. Sharon has a son, James Marotta, who lives in San Diego Qk. He is a technical manager for Air Touch, which handles all computer problems from Los Angeles to San Diego. Alan has a son and daughter. Kelly is married to Shawn Hawley. He is a Major in the U. S. Army and at present they are stationed in Leavenworth, KS. Son, Scott Johnston, lives in Syracuse, NY. He's an independent contractor for Environmental Science Labs and is very busy handling Y2K upcoming problems. They both enjoy bicycling. Tis how they found PKS. While vacationing at the Sea Hawk, they biked around PKS and found out what a gem was here. They enjoy traveling. So far they have been in 47 states enjoying all the National Parks. Alaska will be the next stop. They've also enjoyed Germany. Sharon enjoys photography, reading and being a "Beach Bum." Alan loves to cook, gourmet is his specialty. He is learning to fish and clam, wants to get a boat, does jogging every day, and is quite the gardener. He has done a beautiful deck garden He's also taking up golf. submitted by: Betty Lee Fouik Patti and Jim Schweis moved into 144 Mimosa Boulevard the day "Hurricane Dennis" made his appearance in PKS. What a welcome! Fortunately they had been renting on Holly Road since last winter so they weren't discouraged by the storm. Patti is a registered nurse. She attended the State University College at Cortland(NY) Nursing School for her LPN and then moved to Buffalo where she took the courses to become a registered nurse. She worked in the emergency room, special care unit. Jim is originally from Garden City, Long Island, New York. He went to the State University College at Cortland (NY) and was employed by Eckerds in Buffalo, New York. When their daughter went to college, they started vacationing in this area and they liked it. Jim requested a transfer to Morehead City and received it. They rented an apartment in Atlantic Beach while they sold their house in Buffalo. Patti retired and they moved down here permanently. They rented on Holly Road while they were looking for a house and when the McGibbons put theirs on the market, Patti and Jim knew it was the one for them. They have a daughter, Andrea, who is a junior at West Virginia University and a son, Shawn who lives and works in Buffalo. A sweet, gentle, fifteen-year old "dog of all kinds" completes the family. Gizmo has adjusted well to the new home. Patti is a member of the PKS Women's Club co-chairing the "Cooks Night Out". She belongs to the "Newcomers' Club" and volunteers for Hospice at the Broad Street Clinic. They both like the beach, enjoy golf, biking, gardening and walking. I
