Page 2 ne Shoreline March, 2000 The Right Wav on The Riaht-of-Wav Pine Knoll Shores has an ordinance that forbids parking on the right-of-way from midnight until 6:00 A.M. Many do not understand precisely what this means. The right- of-way defines the area between one property line and the property line across the street, including the street. Parking is prohibited therein during the stated 5 hours. There are situations when this ordinance will cause hardship and public safety is not compromised. One situation can be cited when EMS vehicles are parked while a patient is transported to the hospital. There may also be a need for a resident to house more vehicles overnight than can be parked within the confines of his property. In this case the owner parks safely off the pavement, phones the town police, describes the problem, states where the vehicle is parked and when it is to be removed. Your town is concerned about your safety and the safety of others. Please help us to help you by following this procedure. I would rather not spend your tax dollars on "NO PARKING" signs. They are expensive to purchase and install as well as being unsightly. Carl Heffelfinger, Commissioner Streets & Public Property Planning Board Topics of discussion included: 1. A motion passed to recommend, to the Board of Commissioners, that bulkheading of all canal front lots be required. The Planning Board requested that advice from the town attorney be sought as to the best way to approach this requirement. 2. A motion passed that no action be taken by the Town regarding bulkheading of sound front lots due to the advice from the town attorney. 3. The condo-tel issue has been dropped; no action will be taken on this matter at this time. 4. A proposed Public Tree Ordinance will be forwarded to the town attorney for review. The ordinance is another step in the direction of the Community Appearance Commission's attempt to have the Town of Pine Knoll Shores recognized as a Tree City USA. Notice: There is a vacant position for an alternate member on the Planning Board. Applications can be obtained at the reception desk at Town Hall. The Planning Board meets at 3:00 p.m. the 4“^ Tuesday of each month in the Town Hall meeting room. PKS Community Appearance Commission Sincere thanks from the Community Appearance Commission for the tremendous interest and participation in our recent seedling tree giveaway. (One of our northern transplants was heard to say that the crowd reminded her of a sale at Filene's Basement in Boston.) Bob Curry, Jr., Chairman MOVIN ON Skip Norcross has been the Operations Manager for Emergency Management since the start of the season last year. Unfortunately he is moving to Virginia. Skip, we thank you very much for your volunteer service to our Town. Jim Hunter has agreed to take his place effective at once. Jim has also expressed his desire to serve our Town; he will be a great addition to the team. Jim and Dick will be meeting in March, formulating plans for the coming season. They will then hold informational/training meetings for all the volunteers. You will be contacted by phone. Think you want to be a volunteer? Call Dick Stevens at 240- 2041, he will invite you to a meeting, explain what the needs are and you can decide if you want to join "the BIG wind" team.
