Ad valorem taxes will provide $640,000 of the proposed budget with the remainder coming from sales & use tax, utilities franchise taxes, beer &. wine tax, interest on investments, reimbursements, grants, fees charged, transfers from the Power Bill Fund and Reserve Funds. The new budget proposes that the tax rate remain at 16 cents which it has for the past three years. Pine Knoll Shores continues to have one of the lowest tax rates in the state. In preparing the Town Budget, there is one group that maies a significant impact, the volunteers. Through their gift of time and training, they contribute greatly to the financial well being of Pine Knoll Shores. The Budget Hearing is scheduled for June 13, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. after which adoption of the appropriations ordinance may be considered. Any person who wishes to be heard on the budget may appear. This proposed budget, as required by law, will be on display in the office of the Town Clerk during regular business hours from May 9, 2000, through June 13, 2000. Water Report In the lawsuit involving Carolina Water Service, the judge ruled in the Town's favor. Details of findings will be released at a later date. A survey letter is being prepared to go out to all property owners in Pine Knoll Shores for their opinion on whether or not the Board of Commissioners should pursue renourishing Pine Knoll Shores beaches. The letter will give all aspects of the project, financial, time frame, etc. There will be a public hearing on the bulkheading of canal front lots at the June 13 meeting of the Board of Commissioners. Recreation Districts Following the public hearing, the Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to amend the Town Code of Ordinances, Chapter 21-7.10(b), Recreational Districts, to include municipal property. The Board also voted unanimously to change the zoning of a 10' x 415' strip of municipal property on the west side of IMcNeil Inlet from Residential to Recreation 2 zoning. This is one of the shoreline access points that are needed if the Town is to get state and federal funding for beach nourishment.
