Page IQ The Shoreline August, 2000 MEET YOUR NEW NEIGHBORS: Joe and Diane Meyers purchased the house on the corner of Hawthorne Drive and Sycamore, #144. Joe was raised in Ft. Collins, Co and went to Colorado State University as a business major. Diane was born in Pueblo, Co and went to Oregon State University majoring in education. Diane married very early and had 5 children and soon after became a widow. Joe and Diane met in Pueblo where Joe was working for INA Insurance Company servicing agents all over Colorado and doing investments. They met on a blind date, were married 40 years ago, and had one more child with Joe adopting all five of Diane's children. They moved to Dodge City, Kansas, then to Portland, Ore, where he was in management with E. F. Hutton. Joe loved the ocean and spent much time on the beach and boating and they enjoyed back packing with 6 kids. Then they left the area for Lincoln, Neb. to rebuild a security firm that then sold out to Paine Webber. He retired and moved to San Diego, CA. to go to the Scripps Clinic in La Hoya. He has a severe lung condition. His mother got ill and they returned to Ft. Collins to set her storage business back on its feet. While there they came out of retirement and bought this 100 year old ranch, the DeColores Dama Ranch and raised lamas selling them for back packing and their wool. They won blue ribbons for their animals at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. They sold the ranch after six years and built a home at the Ptarmigan Country Club and really retired. Their daughter Shelly is married to Terry Donnally and they live in Beaufort, NC. They own One Cut Above Construction Company. They have one son. Jeff is married to Sheryl and lives in Lincoln, Neb. They have 4, children. Joe is married to Jill and they live in Portland, Or with two children. Lisa is married to Dock Hooks and they live in New Bern and have one son. Diane has a gorgeous, white baby grand piano. Joe asked her to play and she said, "Oh I'm just learning." Well soon I heard this beautiful piano being played and she walked out - yes, it's an electronic piano. Sure fooled me but 'twas beautiful. As you guessed, they love animals. They have 2 stray dogs they found and 3 stray cats all near the age of 12, a beautiful cocker spaniel Walker, Tippy a really pretty Shelte and the 3 cats are Daisey, Boots and Timothy, all throw aways as she calls them. Joe enjoys playing the saxophone and is an avid golfer. He also likes boating and fishing. Diane enjoys cooking and "learning to play piano." They are busy redoing the house and love it here.
