April Board of Commissioners Meeting
Presentation
"Duke" Foulk was recognized and presented with a plaque for 12 years of dedicated service to the Fire
Department, to the town and to the citizens of Pine Knoll Shores. Two other firemen were recognized
for receiving Firefighter 1 State Certification - John Riso and Dick Page. To receive this certification
150 hours of hands on and classroom instruction had to be completed.
Beach Access
The Board approved the purchase of 100 feet of property at the western end of the Iron Steamer
Property, from highway 58 to the ocean, for $475,000. The property will be used for public beach
access with approximately 75 parking spaces. The goal is 5 public beach accesses within Pine Knoll
Shores, in order to comply with requirements for Federal and/or State funding for long-term beach
renourishment.
Oceanfront- Pruning Moratorium
The Board of Commissioners voted to extend the oceanfront-pruning moratorium for one year. This
includes all pruning, cutting and trimming on the oceanfront south of the principal structure.
Shoreline
Last month we Indicated that we were looking into various methods of presenting the shoreline to you,
our taxpayers. Since that time we have heard the following comments, "I really don't care" to "don't
you dare drop the Shoreline" and "I would be willing to pay the $12 shipping and handling charge to
get the Shoreline." We even heard that they would be willing to pay the extra one-cent of ad valorem
to continue to get the Shoreline at no extra cost to them.
As of this moment, we have made no final decision as to what cause of action we will take with the
Shoreline.
We are, however, going to survey all our taxpayers. We hope this survey will help us formulate a
policy that satisfies the majority of our taxpayers. Rest assured, at this moment there is no plan to
discontinue publishing and delivering the Shoreline as is currently done. After the survey, we will be
in a better position to report our findings and make our decision.
