October Board of Commissioners Meeting
1 The Board of Commissioners announced that three bids had been received for the beach renourishment project, which
constitutes a legal bidding process. The lowest bid was Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, out of Oak Brook,
Illinois. Final determination will be made at the October work session, when all the permits should be final. The Board
foresees no problems and expects the project to begin November 16‘^ 2001. The Board invites all citizens to bring
their sand buckets and join in a sand ceremony to celebrate this great accomplishment of our Town,
1 The Board passed a resolution authorizing the condemnation of beach renourishment easements as authorized by
North Carolina General Statutes 40A-3.
1 The Board of Commissioners has been advised of one Pine Knoll Shores' family who was directly affected by the
terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. The Board is seeking information on any Pine Knoll Shores family that suffered
a loss during the attack on the World Trade Center, Pentagon or Pennsylvania plane crash so that they may be

® The Chief of Police recognized Officer Lee Rice who has been called to active duty with the Coast Guard Reserves.
Chief l^uhlig introduced the two newest members of the Police Department, Officer Jim Parks and Officer Bill Pollock.
Chief Muhlig announced the promotion of Officers Lee Rice and Tyron Mann to the rank of Sergeants. Chief Muhlig
also introduced another new member of the force, Kyra, Police canine. A flag was presented to Lieutenant Ethan
Hazard, Canine Handler in honor of the Departments first canine, Bruno who lost his life earlier this year.
1 The Board of Commissioners approved a plan submitted by AirGate PCS for a telecommunications antenna to be
located on the Ramada Inn, which will provide digital phone service for the Pine Knoll Shores area.
1 An architectural firm is now in the process of doing preliminary drawings for the renovations of the old Wachovia Bank
building which will become the new Public Safety building.
1 An appeal is being made to the Department of Transportation for a street light to be placed at the intersection of
Mimosa and Hwy 58, since this will be the detour route during the replacement of the Oakleaf Drive Bridge.
