November Board of Commissioners Meeting
i The Board of Commissioners held a Public Hearing to receive public input on the rezoning of the former Wachovia Bank
property from Commercial to Municipal Service. Later, during their regular meeting, the Board followed up on this
issue and voted approving the rezoning. Plans to convert the building into a Public Safety Building are underway.
i The Town Auditor, G. Lee Carroll, CPA gave a synopsis of the Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ending
June 30, 2001. Mr. Carroll complimented the Town Staff on their record keeping, and the Mayor and Commissioners
for their prudent decision-making regarding Town funds.
i The Board of Commissioners passed an Ordinance Prohibiting Body Piercing and Tattoo Establishments within the City
Limits.
i The Board passed an Ordinance to Continue Conforming the Governance of the Town of Pine Knoll Shores to the
Administrator Form of Government.
i The Board passed a Resolution releasing its share of funds appropriated by the General Assembly to the Eastern
Carolina Council to help Lead Regional Organizations to assist local governments with activities deemed appropriate.
i Citizens were informed that the State Supreme Court refused to hear Carolina Water's appeal. The case has been set
aside. The Board can now move forward and discuss the next plan of action.
i Citizens were also informed that the Beach Project Anticipations Notes were purchased by First Union Bank. They were
bought quickly and at a very good rate, which means when the actual Bonds are sold, probably in August, the Town
has a better chance of getting a good rate. The Board adjourned to the Public Beach Access to put inaugural sand
on the beach, anticipating the beginning of the beach renourishment project on November 16‘^ There will be some
inconvenience to residents but the project should move quickly starting at the eastern end of Town. They will be
working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
i Citizens were informed that it wasn't likely that a traffic light could be placed at the intersection of Mimosa and Hwy
58 due to federal criteria regarding the amount of traffic. They may, however, be able to add a third lane as a turn
lane or install a temporary light during construction of the Oakleaf Drive Bridge replacement. This issue is still being
discussed.
