Shoreli The December 2004 • Vol. 1, No. 6 A Shoreline Community, Pine Knoll Shores, NC 16th Annual Festival of Trees Town Hall 247-4353 Slated For Dec. 3 Through 9 The 16th annual Festival of Trees will be held Dec. 3 through Dec. 9 at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. The festi val is a fund raising effort by Friends of Hospice of Carteret County. Through the generosity of count less businesses, civic groups and individuals, Hospice is able to serve terminally ill patients and their families in Carteret County by financially supporting direct patient care, the Volunteer Pro gram and the Bereave ment Program. The Festival of Trees officially begins with the Tree of Lights. Your tax- deductible donation of $5 or more can be made in memory or in honor of a loved one. The Tree of Lights will then be decorated with stars in scribed with the honoree’s name. The decora tion will be available to the donors at the end of the festival. This year’s Preview Party theme is “Rockin’ Round the Christmas Tree”. The party is from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3. Ticket price is $50 per person, $40 for senior citi zens. By popular request, Flash Point Band will be our entertainment again this year. Be sure to wear your dancing shoes! Outback Steakhouse will donate time, services and special down-under food for the Preview Party. The festival will open to the public for viewing from 9 a.m. to5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4. The North Carolina Symphony will present its Holiday Pops concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for this may be purchased at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. A special Santa Workshop will be available again this year for children to purchase gifts. No adults allowed! New this year will be the raffle of an elegantly deco rated artificial Christmas tree. The tree is sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. V.J. O’Neal and decorated by Candy Rice. Raffle tickets at $ 1 each will be available at Dee Gee’s, Coastal Crafts, or from any member of the Hospice Board. Call Patti Schweis at 808-0464 or Margaret Smith at 247-4800. Volunteers are needed to fill in for Santa and act as hosts and hostesses to greet visi tors. Volunteer firemen are needed to cover the 24-hour fire watch. Please call Pat Acevedo at 247-9796 to assist with this special pro gram. Christmas Parade The town of Pine Knoll Shores Christmas Parade will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4. The PKS Volunteer Fire/EMS/Police Auxiliary is encouraging businesses, motels, hotels, associations and organizations to participate in this event. The parade will begin at the Amerisuites and proceed down Oakleaf Drive one mile to McNeil Park. At the conclusion of the parade there will be a reception at Town Hall for all participants. The auxiliary sponsors this annual event. Tom Steepy(right), chairman of the Habitat for Humanity Golf Tournament, presents a certificate to Nick Policastro expressing appreciation to Bogue Banks Country Club for once again donating the use of its facilities for the fund-raising event. Policastro is a director of the club. At left is Bill Keefe of Pine Knoll Shores, president of the local Habitat group’s board of directors. Golf Tournament Raises $24,000 Plus For Habitat On Friday, Nov. 5,2004 the Bogue Banks Country Club in Pine Knoll Shores, donated the use of their golf course again this year to hold a charity fundraising event to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Chairman Tom Steepy of the Golf Tournament Committee reported that the event raised more than $24,000 to build Habitat Houses locally. In 7 years the annual event has raised enough funds to build several houses. First Flight Federal Credit Union was the corporate sponsor again this year. Many area businesses and individuals sponsored holes on the Bogue Banks course to raise funds for Habitat. Proceeds from this event will be presented to the Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity on Monday, Nov. 29 at 10a.m. at their office on IS* and Bridges in Morehead City. Crystal Coast Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of the international organization, and builds homes for eligible families in Carteret County and Havelock. Executive Director, Kris Durham expressed many thanks as she addressed the event partici pants before they headed off to their tees. Several Habitat Homeowners attended the event to thank the donors. The recipient of the Golf Tournament house in Morehead City, Ivana James, gave her thanks to the crowd for her family’s new home they just moved into at the start of this school year. Executive Director Durham reported that Habitat is currently completing a home in Havelock on Carolina Street, and they have one underway in Cape Carteret on Hunter Brown Drive across from the Star Hill Golf course.
