At 7:55m on December 7,1941, almost 200 Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The raid lasted little more than one hour but left nearly 3,000 people dead. Almost the entire U.S. Pacific Fleet was at anchor at the harbor and not many ships escaped damage. Serveral were disabled or sunk, while 200 U.S. aircraft on the ground were destroyed. This attack on Pearl Harbor brought about immediate U.S. entry into World War II. The Declaration of War was requested by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was approved by the Congress on December 8,1941. Pearl Harbor Day is December 7th and we should take the time to remember exactly what happened on this date and how it has affected our past, present and future.
