Page 8 The Shoreline January 2005 The committee left to right: Pauly Brown, Betty Haughey, Liv Stephens and Anita Adler Pine Knoll Shores Women’s Club Luncheon By Ronnie Stanley The annual PKS Women’s Club holiday luncheon was recently held at the Trade winds Restaurant at the Royal Pavilion. The guests were treated to a wonderful buffet style lun cheon of pork tenderloin and a choice of fantastic desserts. Santa donated a choice of wine. The event was chaired by Anita Adler. Mrs. Grace Hunter, a founding member, was presented with a poinsettia plant. Pat di Giuseppe provided “reveler music” on his full orchestra keyboard. Everyone fin ished the day singing Christmas carols. Scholarship Chair Ronnie Stanley intro duced Katie Kotschi, recipient of the club scholarship to Carteret Community College. The club raises funds annually to provide a scholarship to a deserving female who is completing her college education later in life. Katie is a working single mother of four children, ages sixteen, thirteen, seven and four. She works for the Carteret County Do mestic Violence Program as the co-manager of Finder’s Keepers. A full-time student, Katie’s educational goals at CCC include finishing all necessary courses for admittance into a four-year nurs ing program. She is currently a Certified Nurse Aide. After earning her RN, she would like to become either a school nurse or a pediatric nurse practitioner working with children having special needs. Although she has not been in school for almost eight years, she is excited to be doing well in her classes Schlarship winner Katie Kotschi with Ronnie Stanley and Mary Kanyha and is determined to make a stable life for her children by earning the ability to support them with a rewarding career in the health profession. The Pine Knoll Shores Women’s Club scholarship can be used for tuition, books and other college expenses. Its purpose is to help the woman who may have had a difficult time completing higher education. Its criteria re quire above average grades, full-time enroll ment and willingness to apply herself to aca demic life in addition to her family responsi bilities. Katie is the seventh recipient of the club scholarship, established in 1997. Book Clubs The Book Clubs are reading... The Beach Book Club will meet at the home of Joy Wray on January 13 to discuss “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” by Mark Haddon. The Book Bums and Between the Book Ends will be meeting together on January 10 at the home of Jan Corsello to discuss “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini. You are invited to join and read with a book club through the Pine Knoll Shores Women ’ s Club, please contact Mary Greene at 222-3005. Ladies Golf Association Cites Long-time Members The h^hUght of the day came when Irish Wallace acknowkdged twelve ladies who have been members for 20 or more years. They are Ellen VonThaden, Vivian MacDonald, Betty Wagner, Mary Kanyha, Myrtle Wertz, Nicki Hooper, Mary Wiker, Astrid Norman, Terri Sweeny, Lenora Roberson, and Blanche Yancey. Missing from the picture is Alice Garrison Submitted by Karen Rice The Ladies Golf Assn.at Bogue Banks Country Club held its annual Christmas lun cheon and awards ceremony December 2. President Trish Wallace thanked the following members for working towards the success of the party: Marty Hare, Maureen Danehy, Bonnie Femeau, Pat Chambers, Kay Spiegelberg, Linda Cumberland, Marge Green, Doe Martynowski, Doris Vamer, Arlene Terrell and Bonnie Robinson. Once again, our Pro Reggie Colomb and his staff, Lorraine, Justin and Andy, provided excellent food and bever ages in the festively decorated ballroom. Winners of the yearly tournaments were awarded their prizes, paintings by Pine Knoll Shores artists Janie Prete, Julia Woolard and Janet Birkel. The highlight of the day came when Trish Wallace acknowledged twelve ladies who have been members for 20 or more years. They are Alice Garrison, Nicki Hooper, Mary Kanyha, Vivian MacDonald, Astrid Norman, Lenora Roberson, Terrie Sweeny, Ellen Von Thaden, Betty Wagner, Myrtle Wertz, Mary Wiker and Blanche Yancey. In the spirit of the season, the ladies passed a basket and collected more than $400 for their annual donation to Martha’s Mission.
