On April 11 Lee and Pauly Brown flew toTel Aviv,Israel. They spentthenextfivedays
in Jerusalem where they rode up the Mount of Olives, toured Gethsemane, and the Church
of the Holy Sepulcher, and walked the Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa to the
Western Wall. They went to the Sea of Galilee where Jesus had delivered his Sermon on
the Mount. The next stop was Cairo where they got their first glimpse of the Pyramids of
Giza towering above the desert. They drove to the Giza Plateau, the home of the great
pyramids. The Pyramid of Cheops was built more than 2000 years before the time of Christ.
Then they began their seven-day river cruise. The scenery along the Nile reminded them
of pictures seen in the National Geographic. A balloon ride over the Valley of Kings was
another highlight of the wonderful and informative trip. They were busy practically every
minute, enjoyed the people, the food, and the experience and arrived home very tired but
sated with extraordinary memories of a wonderful trip to Israel, Ancient Egypt and the
Nile.

Phil and Jerri Mathews just
returned from a month long
odyssey that began in Pine Knoll
Shores to their final destination
in San Diego, California. They
planned to spend quality time
with their son, Greg, and
daughter- in-law, Donna. The
final leg of the trip was scheduled
for stop at Austin, Texas, to visit
daughter Karen. On the return
trip they toured the Grand
Canyon, the Petrified Forest and
the Painted Desert. Stops
included seeing friends in Las
Vegas, Ft. Worth, and Atlanta.
The trip encompassed over
6000 miles by car and they
returned still speaking to each
other. Now that is a case of true
love.
Town Commissioner Larry Le Brie and his wife, Beth, participated in an Elderhostel
two-week trip to Germany and Romania. The Generational Research was appropriate for
learning details of their German heritage. The first part of the tour began at Baden and
Weisberg. They explored the history of the area, with a heavy emphasis on the area’s many
castles. Later the focus was on the archival information concerning their ancestry.
Included in the instruction was a history of the German emigration to the United States.
Interestingly, the state decreed that there would be no returning once you left. During their
European visit they spent some time with their son, Larry, and his wife, Aurelia, who are
missionaries working in Romania. The couple’s work concentrates on Russian children
who arrive in Romania suffering from HIV Aids.
A household tip from John Mays:
For home owners with casement crank-type windows, certain maintenance could save
expensive repairs. Suggestion: apply CRC anti corrosion or CRC corrosion spray which
should last for a number of years. Be sure to spray all moving parts, including the crank
and lock mechanism. These sprays should be available at hardware or auto parts stores.
