Carteret County Senior Games

As the band from the Tiller School of
Carteret County played the Star Spangled
Banner and Skip Waters, Meteorologist,
WCTI TV 12, pronounced the 18"' annual
Carteret County Senior Games officially open,
98 participants from around the county began
8 days of competition May 2 -8. Included
were thirteen competitors from Pine Knoll
Shores. All week long seniors over 55 years
of age competed in over 26 athletic events
plus Performing Arts, Literary Arts, Visual
Arts and Heritage Arts.
Pine Knoll Shores competitors included
Walter Bone, Pat Chambers, Robert Danehy,
Barbara Evans, Patricia Filan, Victor Filan,
Patti Swetz
Carl Heffelfinger.Tom Martynowski, Duane
Mathisen, Patti Swetz, Kathy Trommer, Frank
Wallace and Trish Wallace. All these P.K.S.
participants won gold, silver or bronze medals
and will be eligible to compete in the North
Carolina State Games in Raleigh in October!!
Quite a feat! Several medaled in more than
one event and special congratulations to Vic
Filan who took home 12 medals!!!

Pine Knoll Shores
Democratic Party Update
The Pine Knoll Shores Democrat Party
Precinct will meet on Monday, June 18, at PKS
Town Hall to review the information presented
during District Convention to be held May 21 in
Belhaven, N.C. All interested Democrats and
non-affiliated folks are welcome to join us from
7-8 p.m. We have also invited the Atlantic
Beach, Emerald Isle, Indian Beach, Salter Path
and Cedar Point precinct officers to join us.
Light refreshments will be served.
The May 8 meeting had 25 people in
attendance from both PKS and Emerald Isle.
We discussed developing a ward system for the
island to further organize our membership.
Each precinct on Bogue Banks will make up
Ward IV of Carteret County.
The Chair discussed the newly formed
committees of the county party. These included
Budget and Finance, Issues and Responses,
Facilities and Development, Grassroots
Development and Public Relations/
Communications, and the membership was
encouraged to join one of the these teams.
Precinct Chair Clarke announced that Ward
IV would be hosting a pig pickin’ Saturday,
June 25, from 3 p.m. on at Brock Basin. All
guests are encouraged to bring a covered dish
and RSVP to Maureen Kilgallen at 222-3088
or Anne Clarke at 240-3201 with the number
attending. Cooking will begin much earlier and
guests are welcomed anytime and food will be
served around 4 p.m. BYOB
Some important dates to mark on your
calendar:
• Carteret County Democratic Party Meeting
at Beaufort Court House on the first Tuesday of
each month. All Democrats and un-affiliated’s
are welcomed to attend the meeting at 6:30
p.m. until 8 p.m..
• Democratic Women meet the fourth
Tuesday of each month at Golden Corral.
• A ARP meets the third Monday at Ramada
(call hotel for details).
• Senior Democrats meet at 11:30 a.m. the
third Thursday of each month at county
headquarters (call headquarters at 726-1607).
• Democratic Party District Convention
will be held at the Fish Hook Cafe in Belhaven,
N.C. Saturday, May 21. Thirty-nine delegates
were elected during the county convention. All
Democrats are welcome to attend but only
these 39 elected individuals can vote.

The final program for the PKS Women’s
Club will be a luncheon at the Coral Bay Club
June 3 with a social time at 11:30 a.m. and
lunch at 12 noon. The speaker, John Loonam,
will discuss the life of both men and women
pirates along the coast.
New officers for next year will be installed
by Mayor Joan Lamson at the luncheon.
The Book Clubs are reading...
The Beach Book Club will meet at the
LaBrie
home of Jean Hileman on June 9 at 2 pm to
discuss My Sister’s Keeper: A Novel by Judy
Picoult.
Between the Book Ends will meet at the
home of Marge Michael on June 13 at 2 pm
to discuss Peace Like A River by Leif Enger.
