Page 2 The Shoreline January 2006 December BOC Meeting By Yvette Bannen Aquarium Welcomes Continued from Page 1 often the face of the aquarium,” Chris says. “Their smiles, their enthusiasm and their love of the animals can make all the difference in a visitor’s experience.” Chris is an ordained Episcopal priest, and comes to the Aquarium after 14 years as pastor, director of religious education and volunteer coordinator for churches in Kentucky, Massachusetts and North Carolina. She is originally from New Jersey. While at her last post in Greenville, Chris was an active volunteer herself with the Pitt County Humane Society. She sees her aquarium work as an avenue for her own love of animals and concern for the environment to inspire others. “The aquarium is a living classroom where information is shared, hearts are touched and vocations nurtured,” she says. “I can think of no more wonderful a calling than to provide children and adults with the opportunity to see, touch and learn about aquatic life.” Chris is working from the aquarium’s temporary quarters at the Atlantic Station Shopping Center in Atlantic Beach. Email Chris at Christine.Carlin@ncmail.net or call 252-247-4003 to reach her, and to find out more about the Aquarium expansion. The Aquarium website, www.ncaquariums.com, also carries regular updates on the expansion and its progress. In election years, such as 2006, parties are not allowed to charge a registration fee for their conventions. Therefore, there will be no fee for our county GOP convention March 4 at the Leon Mann, Jr. Senior Center in Morehead City. It will begin at 10 a.m. that day. We are allowed to accept donations, which we will be happy to do. There would be no bottom or top limit on the individual donation amount. Senators McCain and Feingold have decreed that we have the names and addresses of all donors, so we will provide envelopes for donation purposes. Donors should put their name on the envelope or in it. When we open the envelope we will know how much, and we match the name with the address on the registration. This is to ensure confidentiality. Other upcoming events are: Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, March 10 to 12. Information can be obtained at www.SRLC.org. Third Congressional District GOP Convention April 29 at Beaufort Community College, Washington, N.C. I will have details when they are worked out. There will be a reverse raffle in the evening. North Carolina State GOP Convention June 2 to 4 in New Bern. Again, I will have details when they are worked out, or they can be obtained at www.NCGOP.org.
