Remembering Morgan Hammer, Early Resident and Volunteer By Barbara Milhaven Did you ever wonder how our many parks and marinas got their names? I have enjoyed many "sittum" suppers on the PIKSCO ocean park deck off Bay Street between Knollwood and Pinewood Circle, enjoying with friends the food, view and often spectacular sunsets. I did not know the park was named for Morgan P. Hammer. If you think about the many talented, experienced retirees who have made Pine Knoll Shores their home and enhanced the natural beauty found here through their initiative, expertise and hard work, you will realize that the amenities such as (Morgan Hammer) Continued on Page 4 (Sand Slated) Continued on Page 4 Holiday Trash Pickup Schedule Christmas and New Year's Day fall this year on Mondays, the normal weekly trash collection day. There will be NO trash pickup on those Mondays. Instead, trash will be picked up the following day, on Tuesday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Jan. 2. The monthly collection of yard waste, which would normally be conducted on Dec. 28 (the last Thursday of the month), is being moved up a week to Thursday, Dec. 21 so as not to conflict with Christmas week. The curbside recycling collection will be done on Thursday, Dec. 28 as usual. Town's Website Making Quantum Leap Forward By Bill White The Town of Pine Knoll Shores has had a website since July, 2002, but as of last Oct. 16 the information available to those who log on is now four or five times greater. The new and improved web page has been in the works since this past July and remains a work in progress. The site may never reach the point of being able to tell someone everything they would ever want to know about PKS and its environs, but it goes a long way toward that probably unattainable goal. TownClerkRondaLambertisdetermined to continue to incorporate enhancements that will make the site more and more useful as time goes by. Lambert has been the town's Webmaster since the beginning and has been using her experience and growing knowledge of what people who use the site are most interested in to add new functions and put more information at their fingertips. In the process she has had the help of department heads and other staffers, including Anne Blackwell. As the receptionist at townhall, Blackwell is the first person most people talk to in person or on the phone when they have a question. She's an authority on what questions are asked the most. The quantity of information available on the site is not Lambert's only concern. Just as important to her are the quality of the information and the ease with which it can be accessed. One important new addition is an enhanced search capacity that uses icons as well as listings to point people to that page of the site where they will find the specific information they are seeking. Also new is a "How Do I" section that (Town's Website) Continued on Page 6 LAbRIE LAWREtJCE J ETIJX 144 BEECHWOOD DR PINE KNOLL SHORES, NC 2851^ Standard Pre-Sort Permit #35 ic Beach, NC 28512 ^Morgan naminer; v-uinmucvt x * - .... j-. — - .
