ShoreliMt The September 2007 • Vol. 4, No. 3 A Shoreline Community, Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. Town Hall 247-4353 New Clubhouse Key To Bright Future At Country Club By Bill White The Country Club of the Crystal Coast set its sights on a bright future built on a solid foundation of past experiences and a tradition of membership participation as it moved firmly into the 21®' Century with the dedication of a new clubhouse at festivities August 18. The club's determination to look to the future while not losing sight of an eventful past was evident in the group chosen to cut the ceremonial dedicatory ribbon. Among them were 92-year-old Vivian MacDonald, representing the club's remaining active charter members, and Jimmy and Polly anna Cox and their sons Dylan and Jared, representing the younger families on the membership rolls. It is just a "catch and release" game fish in that it is not edible. However, it is a great fighter, a fantastic jumper, and is a beautiful fish to see swimming. I have a nephew, Ted Haines from Florida, who at 12 years of age was diagnosed with Burkett's lymphoma and leukemia. His only chance for survival was TBI (total body irradiation) and a bone marrow transplant. Since the irradiation kills all the bone marrow, unless the marrow transplant "takes" it is a death sentence. My sister had to make this choice for her son. Fortunately she held an ace in her hand. Ted has an identical twin and thus perfectly matching bone marrow. Well, Ted (AKA Mark, an inside joke) has tried for years to catch a Florida tarpon with no success. My son Roger and his buddy Rob invited Ted up here to catch a North Carolina tarpon. In the dog days of July and August, Pamlico Sound and the river mouths of the Neuse, Pamlico and Pungo Rivers hold many of these magnificent fish.
