January 2008 The Shoreline Page 7 PKS Women's Club Members of Pine Knoll Shores Women's Club got the holiday season off to a rousing start by participating in the town's annual Christmas Parade Dec. 1, waving happily to parade watchers along the route from their gaily decorated float. Their celebration of the holiday continued Dec. 7 at the armual Christmas luncheon at The Country Club of the Crystal Coast. Husbands were invited to join in the festivities and many were among the 75 persons attending. Three of the spouses, Clark Edwards, Ted Goetzinger and Vic Filan, became the stars of the entertainment portion of the party with their rendition of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. They sported appropriate prop noses. Guitarist Ron Maxwell and Singer Gayle Mitchner rounded out the program, presenting traditional Christmas favorites as well as accompanying the three Rudolphs. The luncheon was co-chaired by Marsha Dean and Kathy Kimel who also, with the help of Moni Bottlinger, fashioned candlelit hurricane globes encircled by fresh greenery to add a holiday touch to the tables. The next meeting of the club's board of directors will be held at 9 a.m. Jan. 16 at town hall, followed by the monthly club meeting at the same site Jan. 25. MusicalDirector: Judy Long Producer: Hanna Marshbanks If you thought you knew the story of The Princess and The Pea, you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know that Princess Winifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless, The Drab? Or that it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal Master Plan Continued from Page 1 developments. For one thing, an increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic as a result of such things as expansion of the aquarium and the addition of new beach accesses make the need for proper pedestrian facilities ever more pressing. There are now five public beach access points in the community with five more still to be added. Another new factor lies in the fact that within the past year the community has for the first time employed a town manager with wide experience in the plarming, budgeting and implementation of major projects. It has also expanded the capacity of its already highly experienced planning and licensing department with the addition of a director of public works. It is felt that puts the town in a strong position from the standpoint of having the resources to follow through and carry out major projects. Then there is the fact there is a strong desire among the citizens of Pine Knoll Shores for pedestrian facilities as demonstrated by the survey done this summer by the town's recreation advisory committee (RAC). Sidewalks were listed as a primary need by the majority of the nearly 500 respondents to that survey, which sought the opinion of citizens on what recreational facilities would be beneficial. Kramer said the state has received 40 applications for planning funds and is expected to award approximately 18 grants. He expects the newly formed Pine Knoll Shores Pedestrian Master Plan Committee (PKSPMP C) to meet for the first time in February. Those who have agreed to serve include representatives of the three major homeowners associations, Norma McClellon for PKA: Larry Kacmarcik for PIKSCO, and Charles McBriarty for Beacon's Reach. Other members are Jay Barnes, representing the aquarium; Maureen Kilgallen of the recreational advisory committee, Kathy Werle for the community appearance commission, Elaine Tempel, representing the Carteret County Mayors' Committee on Disabled Persons; Bob Danehy for the board of commissioners, Ken Jones as a representative of the planning board, and Kramer for the town. Others may be added. PRIMARY CARE / URGENT CARE M.' courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. Chances are you'll never look at fairy tales quite the same way again.
