Energy Efficiency Audit- Ernie Rudolph, our public services director, recently had the electrical cooperative conduct an energy audit. We received a list of recommendations for both Town Hall and the public services building. Search for a new Auditor- The interim finance officer and I have drafted a Request For Proposal to hire a new auditor. The person we hire will audit the town's financial records for the fiscal year of 2007- 2008 Mosquito Control- We will have several members cross-trained in the deployment of our mosquito-control vehicle this summer. Both of our full time employees in the public services department have recently taken the public health training for this. Preparing for Water Company Billing-Our contracted water company manager will bill for the last time in May. Starting in June, your bills will look different and you will send your payments to town hall. Dtine Restoration and Vegetation- We are taking a look at this with a gentleman we have worked with in the past. This is a fiscal year 08-09 budget discussion item. Fiscal Year 2008-2009 Budget Planning- We have had two budget workshops with the commissioners to start planning for the next fiscal year. All of these meetings are held as open meetings, fully open to the public and advertised in accordance with law. Given the circumstances surrounding our finances this year, I am available to talk to any individual and/or group on next year's budget. My phone number is 247-4353, extension 16. Lastly, on Thursday, May 8 there will be a town hall meeting at 7:00p.m., to discuss the services provided by the town and gather citizen input on the budget. Twenty-six citations involving 35 chargeswereissued;threeforspeeding, two driving with a suspended license, six seatbelt violations, seven drug violations and one alcohol violation, plus 16 other. In addition, 20 warning tickets were issued. There were 110 residence checks and 325 business checks. Police Chief Culpepper reported that two persons responsible for the December break-ins in Beacon's Reach had 52 charges filed against them, including some felony charges. See related article. Emergency Services During March there were 36 calls for service. Seventeen calls were for EMS and seven patients were transported, four of whom required paramedic assistance. The fire department had 19 calls, four for activated alarms, two fires, six service calls, one water rescue (see related article) and six mutual aid of which three were structure fires. There were 198 hours spent in department training during March. Seven inspections were completed and one re-inspection from February due to violations which have been resolved.
