Police Report
During June there were 84 calls for
service including six vehicle accidents,
six assist other agencies, 15 assist fire/
EMS, one domestic, four town ordinance
violations, 33 wellness checks, three
alarms and three unlocked doors.
Thirty-seven citations involving 43
charges were issued for two driving
while impaired, 13 speeding, one driving
with a suspended license, three seatbelt
violations, three drug violations, ten
alcohol violations and 11 all other; 26
warning tickets were issued.
There were 88 residence checks and 321
business checks.
Police Chief Culpepper mentioned that
all six motor vehicles involved in the
accidents sustained heavy damage and
people need to stay alert. Also, that the
"flasher" has been seen at the west end
of town.
Emergency
Services
During June there were 47 calls for
services, 17 of which were for EMS. Twelve
patients were transported, nine of whom
required paramedic assistance.
llie fire department had 30 calls, nine of
which were activated alarms, nine service
calls and one outside fire. There were ten
mutual aid calls.
Two hundred and ninety-four man-
hours were spent in training during
June.
The fire marshal's office was busy even
though no inspections were scheduled.
Two re-inspections were conducted to
see if violations were corrected - one
was corrected and a permit was issued,
but the other still had violations. Alarm
malfunctions continued at two locations.
Shutters III alarm and sprinkler systems
were inspected following the rebuilding
of the structures.
July Commissioners Meeting

Janet Thomas, the town's new town
clerk was sworn in at the begirming of the
meeting. She is a certified municipal clerk
and worked previously in Surf City.
There was a public hearing on rezoning
of the property at 110 Salter Path Road
from commercial to multi-family 1. Jim
Bailey asked for support for a proposed
project of 12 town homes in three
buildings on this site. The commissioners
asked questions about storm water and a
package treatment plant and the zoning
change was approved with the condition
that there be no package treatment plant
on the property
During the work session earlier in the
day, a letter was read on behalf of the
owners of the Seabrook Project (comer of
Oakleaf Drive and Salter Path Road) for a
three-year extension of their permit and,
after discussion, this was granted.
The town manager gave his report and
there will be a meeting in August with
the new auditor, the citizens committee
and commissioners.
An early fire rating inspection has been
requested, hoping to drop the town's ISO
rating to a five.
The firstbilling of water bills by the town
was successful and payments are arriving.
All the well pumps were working at near
capacity over the holiday weekend.
An amendment to the town's traffic
and motor vehicles ordinance to prohibit
parking along designated sections of
highway 58 rights-of-way near two public
beach accesses (Memorial Park and Iron
Steamer) was approved. There will be a
$50 ticket for violations.
A stop sign at the comer of Fairways
Court & Cypress Drive was approved.
Purchase of a commercial lawn mower
for $5,200 was approved. Areas near the
wells have to be mowed, as well as the
town's rights-of-way. Work will be done
by the town's public works employees
rather than hiring a contractor as a cost-
saving measure.
Commissioner Lindblad was absent. The
August 12 commissioners meeting will
start at 10 a.m. with a break for lunch and
will continue until allbusiness is finished.
There will be no separate work session.
