This good advice came to Around Town
from resident Paulette Murphy. A lady
from Kilgore, Texas had an accident and
totaled her car. It was raining, though not
excessively, when her car suddenly began
to hydroplane and literally flew through
the air. She was not seriously injured but
stunned at the sudden occurrence. When
she explained to the highway patrolman
whathad happened, he told her something
that every driver should know: never
drive in the rain with your cruise control
on. She thought she was being cautious by
graduated from North Carolina State,
obtained her masters degree in public
health at George Washington University
in Washington D.C. and is employed at
the North Carolina State Department
of Public Health. The couple took a
honeymoon cruise from New England
up the St. Lawrence Seaway to Quebec,
Canada. Brian and Mara are presently
residing in Raleigh.

of Men and the third episode in the Harry
Potter series. Diane had some "catching
up" time with great-grandson Camilo
and family. They recently returned from
filming in Europe and upon finishing
work in Mexico, they plan to return to
Europe where Jonas is writing a script that
his dad Alphonso Cuaron will direct.

setting the cruise control and maintaining
a safe, consistent speed in the rain. When
there is more water than the tire tread can
handle, the hydraulic pressure of the water
overcomes the weight of the vehicle and
lifts the vehicle off the road. In effect you
are no longer driving through the water,
you are airborne. All car manufacturers
could follow the lead of Toyota by adding
a safety feature in their vehicles. The
Toyota Sienna will not allow you to set
the cruise control when the windshield
wipers are on.
Rock N' Roll - A number of residents out and about on Sunday morning, January 18
observed this scene after a wayward vehicle paid an unscheduled visit to the traffic
island on Oakleaf Drive at the intersection of Salter Path Road. The rock was later
rolled back into place.

Pat and Art Chambers of Beechwood
Drive have had an exciting time of it
the past few weeks. On January 16, they
marked their 50* wedding anniversary
at a dinner with friends at the Country
Club of the Crystal Coast. Several weeks
before, they enjoyed a reunion visit with
their nephew, Larry Chalk and his wife
Judy. They had not seen the Chalks,
who make their home in Haven Beach,
N. J. in 12 years. To make the reunion
at the Chambers' PKS home even more
enjoyable their niece Janet Neckyfarow
and her husband Steve came down from
Chocowinity to join the party. Pat is at the
right in the accompanying photo with her
niece Janet next to her. The Chalks occupy
the center of the photo and Janet's husband
Steve completes the picture at left.
