August 2009 The Shoreline Page 13 Around T own By Bob Ruggiero Lindsay Westmoreland, the grand-daughter of George and Gail Westmoreland of Yaupon Road was invited to sing the national anthem for the Kinston Indians minor league baseball team. Bill and Ronnie Stanley sailed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida aboard the Celebrity Cruise ship Constellation for a 15 day voyage to eight ports-of-call. The first stop was Nassau of the Bahamas with its narrow cobblestone streets bordered with pastel colored homes that overlook the Caribbean Sea. Bill and Rormie enjoyed the colored coral life while onboard a semi-submarine. Next was the island of Bermuda with a visit to Hamilton, the island capital city with its numerous historical buildings, shops and museums situated along the natural harbor. Then it was the Azores where the couple explored the village of Sete Cidades that is located in the center of an extinct crater. The village overlooked magnificent views of several scenic lakes. Lisbon, Portugal was the site The Red Hat Ladies of Pine Knoll Shores met June 23, at Piccata's Restaurant on Arendell Street. While approaching Lisbon from the sea the ship followed the course of many famous Portuguese sailors, including Christopher Columbus and Prince Henry the Navigator. Then it was off to La Rochelle, France where Ronnie attempted to speak French to a shopkeeper who turned out to be Spanish. Disembarking at Harwich, England, they traveled to London where they rode on the "London Eye" a 443 foot Ferris wheel that provided splendid views of much of the historic sites of London. On their return to the United States, Bill claimed that a 15 day ocean voyage was so much more enjoyable and comfortable that a 10 hour flight aboard and aircraft crammed with a bunch of vacationing tourists. S Marilyn and Ted Lindblad enjoyed an early celebration of their 50‘^ wedding anniversary August 22 by visiting the beautiful western states with their children and grandchildren. A wonderful time was had by all and the places visited included the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell and Zion Canyon. It was a repeat of a tour MariljTi and Ted had taken about five years ago, and they were anxious to share this fabulous area with their children. When asked, all agreed that it was difficult to know which canyon was the best because they are all so different. The hardest trail in Zion," Angels Landing," proved to be the most fun. Thankfully, all grandma and grandpa had to do was enjoy their smiling faces and their obvious delight at the beauty of the United States. The tour ended in Las Vegas, where their oldest grandson celebrated his 16* birthday on the roller coaster atop the New York, New Yorkhotelatmidnight. It was certainly a birthday that he will remember and a trip that Marilyn and Ted will never forget. >f- >f- >t- Congratulations to the Pine Knoll Shores residents who were among the graduating class of West Carteret High School: Chelsea Olachner, Ivey Summerlin, Mirianda Conrad, Brian Norris and Haley Grant.
