Correction - Near the end of the
"July Commissioners Meeting" article
on page 3 of the August edition of The
Shoreline, the sentence beginning "The
no-parking signs are not working..
was incorrect. The fact is the signs are
working, but the problem is that cars
park just beyond these signs.
Free Dog Seminar- A dog obedience
seminar will be offered on Saturday,
October 3 at 11 a.m. at the Paradise
Acres kennel on Sam Gamer Road in
Newport. If you have a puppy that
needs to leam manners or an adult dog
whose manners need to be refreshed,

Charity Golf Event - The New Bern

Candidates Campaigning - The
two candidates vying for mayor of
Pine Knoll Shores (Ken Jones and Ted
Lindblad) and the four candidates
for commissioner (Doug Browne,
Larry Corsello, John Halada and
Larry Kacmarcik) have been sent a
letter requesting each to provide The
Shoreline with a photo and a brief
bio. Those that are received will be
carried in the October edition of the
paper. If you wish to leam more about
the candidates' views, watch for the
date of the League of Women Voters'
"Candidate Fomm." These sessions
typically begin with introductions
of each of the candidates and allow
time for each to make an opening
statement. The balance of time is then
spent with the candidates' responding
to audience questions and may also
allow a closing statement from each
candidate present.

Payment Program for your water bill.
There is no charge to your water bill for
this service! Just fill out the agreement
found as an insert in this edition of The
Shoreline, and mail it with a voided
check to townhall. Your water bill will
be automatically drafted every other
month. You will continue to receive a
water bill every other month with the
draft date on the top of your bill. By
participating in this program you can
not only help the environment but also
help the water department reduce costs
and also reduce your expenses. Your
savings are the result of eliminating the
bi-monthly need to write a check, locate
and address an envelope and the cost
of a postage stamp. The Automatic Bill
Payment Program will save everyone

Pumpkin Card Party - Sponsored by
Carteret General Hospital volunteers,
the Eighth Annual Pumpkin Card
Party will be held on September 29,
from 1 to 5 p.m., at First Presbyterian
Church in Morehead City. Participants
are welcome to play dominoes and
any card or board game of their
choice. Tickets are $12 and include
refreshments, snacks, delicious
homemade desserts, 50-50 raffle, and
fantastic door prizes.

Times are Changing - According
to a State Library of North Carolina
news release, Cary grew nearly 7% last
year and is the third-fastest growing
commvmity in North America with a
population of 100,000. Ranked eighth
was Raleigh with a population increase
of nearly 4%. A listing of the top ten
fastest-growing metropolitan areas in
the United States finds Raleigh ranked
number one and Charlotte number
seven. In releasing this information.
State Librarian Mary Boone said: "In
a state that is changing at such a rapid
pace, historic census data is one way
to gain insight into just how dramatic
these changes are and how they might
impact North Carolina's future."
New Boater Safety Law - Governor
Bev Purdue recently signed a measure
from the General Assembly session
that will require persons under age 26
to complete a boater safety education
course prior to operating a boat in state
waters. The law becomes effective on
May 1, 2010. Organizations offering
approved boating courses include
units of the United States Power
Squadrons, United States Coast Guard
Auxiliary and the Wildlife Resources
Commission.
