On February 13, 2010, Bonnie Maccallum Femeau
received the Honor Award for the Southern District
of the American AlUance for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and
Dance (SDAAHPERD) at
the association's annual
convention in Myrtle Beach,
Sorth Carolina. The southern
district is made up of 13
southern states from Virginia
to Texas. The Honor Award
recognizes meritorious
contributions in the field of
physical education, health
education, recreation and/or
dance.
Bonnie is a graduate of West
Virginia Wesleyan College
and George Washington
University. She completed a
36-yearcareerasanelementary
teacher in Frederick County, Maryland, Fairfax
County, Virginia and Carteret County, North
Carolina. Committed to the philosophy of success
for every student and to the importance of physical
education and fitness for a lifetime, three of the schools
in which Ms. Femeau taught physical education
were recognized as Demonstration Schools for the
President's Council for Physical Fitness and Sport. In
addition to teaching, Bonnie
served as cooperating teacher
for 35 student teachers, then
went on to the role of mentor
for teachers in their first three
years of teaching. Bonrue has
shared her love for teaching
in over 100 presentations at
state, district, national and
international workshops and
conferences.
Since 1970, whenBonnie was
a nominee for Outstanding
Young Educator, she has been
a member of Delta Kappa
Gamma and Phi Delta Kappa.
In addition to many other
service and honor awards,
Ms. Femeau has been recogiuzed as Teacher of the
Year in Fairfax County, Virginia, as well as in two
North Carolina schools. Locally, Bormie continues to
contribute her talents as co-chair of the School Health
Advisory Committee of Carteret County.
