You’ll need more than the right shoe size to fill these hoots. Did you know that the Pine Knoll Shores Fire & EMS Department is a combination career and volunteer department? Over half of our members are volunteers; these volunteers help save thousands of tax dollars every year. Our numbers are getting low and we need your help in recruiting new members. The department needs Emergency Medical Technicians and interior certified firefighters. Did you know that it takes 12-15 firefighters to fight a fire in a single family home and up to 50 firefighters to fight a fire in some of our towns largest buildings? Federal and state requirements for safety on the fire ground are strenuous and require a tremendous amount of manpower. Even if you are not able to volunteer, help us by talking to someone who might be interested. We have great benefits for members and don’t require a great amount of your time. If you have any questions or are interested please stop by and see us or give us a call at Pine Knoll Shores Public Safety Department 314 Salter Path Rd, Pine Knoll Shores, 247-2268 or 247-2694. PKS Eastier Egg Hun't There will be an Easter egg hunt on Saturday April 23 at 10 a.m. at Garner Park. Children 12 and under. (All Welcome) If you would like to donate candy for the plastic eggs please drop off at town hall or call Jill Cross at 631-905-6788 or Missy Klor at 727-5567. Birdhouse Show and Competition By Jan Corsello It’s nesting season. The birds are ready for their new homes. The Garden Club of Pine Knoll Shores will soon be hosting its Second Annual Birdhouse Show and Competition: This One’s for the Birds. If you haven’t yet finished your birdhouse for the show, it’s time to get busy. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, at town hall. Our categories are a bit differ ent than last year. This year, birdhouses may be functional and bird friendly or decorative. All must be portable. See the flyers for details. Please tell everyone you know about this event. Remember, it’s not just a Pine Knoll Shores event. Anyone may enter. They’ll be sure to enjoy it, whether they enter or just come to see the birdhouses on Saturday. Tell them that there’s no charge for entering or attending. Entries in all categories will be accepted on Friday April 8, from 9 a.m. -5 p.m. All entries will be judged on Friday afternoon from 5 - 6:30 p.m. This year’s judges will be Kathy Foy, Nick Policastro and Lorraine McElroy. We thank them for volunteering, and we know they’ll do a great job. 16 The Shoreline I April 2011
