Noteworthy. On Thursday April 14, Friends of
Bogue Banks Public Library will host the library staff
lunch at 12 p.m. This will be followed by the Quarterly
Meeting of the Friends Board at 1:30 p.m.
The Book Nook is a fundraiser for the Friends of the
Bogue Banks Public Library. It is located just inside the
library entrance. Books sell for $3.00 each on the honor system. There is a slotted gray metal box atop
the book shelf for $3.00 deposits.
Closings. Bogue Banks Public Library will be closed on Friday April 22 and Saturday April 23
for the Easter Holiday.
Activities for Children. Preschool Story time is held each Thursday at 10 a.m. Thursday April 7
will be “April Foolishness.” Thursday April 14 will be'“National Library Week.” Thursday April 21 will
be “Happy Easter!” Thursday April 28 will be “Earth Day Everyday.” Thursday Preschool Story time is
for ages 3-5. Programs are with Ms. Brita.
Featured Artwork. In April, the Art Gallery of the Bogue Banks Library will feature the photog
raphy of Leslie McCombs-Porter of Marshallburg. After being introduced to black and white pho
tography by her father, Leslie began her serious photography hobby with an old Pentax camera and a
closet dark room. While living in Raleigh,'she had to fit photography among the responsibilities of a
family, three dogs and teaching school. A move to the coast in 2001 brought about a switch to digital
photography to avoid chemicals that might impact our fragile coastal ecology. The immediacy of us
ing digital cameras has allowed Leslie to capture the beauty in ordinary things worn and transformed
by time, use and the elements—things such as sheds, tools, boats, houses, fences—to create elegant
compositions of nature.
The library’s showcases will exhibit classic, hand-painted porcelain collectibles by prize-winning
artists Ruth Price, from Atlantic Beach and Shirley Gambrell, from Morehead City. This popular
spring show features an outstanding selection of porcelain plates, pitchers, vases, boxes, clocks and
other beautiful creations adorned with flowers, fruits, shells and other exciting designs. .
Please plan to join our artists at the public reception on Friday April 8, from 3-4 p.m. in the
library’s art gallery.
